Did you Steal this from Smiths torrents , cause this is my recording .
I did ask nicely for people not to change this to MP3 , but it fell on deaf ears.
Anyone wanting the FLAC version go to
http://www.smithstorrents.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=876
Where there is also the Video of the Wembley gig as well , seeded by me , bought off E-Bay.
Enjoy your MP3 ,
Keith
Joshu's Mu January 4, 2007, 12:38 PM Keith, help me understand your position on this -- I have a few questions for you I don't know the answers to:
1) How did BR technically "steal" this from Torrents? Once it's posted, presumably it's there for the taking, otherwise why post it? And then, of course, however the downloader wants to proceed next is surely up to him, right?
2) Why would you not want the recording to be changed to .mp3? I'm not clear as to why a) you would want this to be the case, and b) why you would think at some point, probably soon, someone would anyway?
Not trying to rile you or anything, but clarification would be good. Maybe I'll come round to your point of view.

Right , I put the Torrent on smiths torrents as a FLAC file , far superior to MP3, would you agree.
I don't mind people sharing it , as I wrote in my post on Smithstorrents, but please keep it as FLAC , that's all i asked for , it just felt liked it had been stolen once the format had been changed.
I know you are trying your best to get me riled , well try a bit harder .
I hope that explains my point of view .
HAPPY NEW YEAR ,
Keith.
MozDesign January 4, 2007, 01:23 PM I'm sorry, but Keith is just being... Well, bitchy, here.
The Morrissey Bootlegs community is about sharing and helping others complete their collections. I simply don't know what you plan to get from attempting to stop people from having .MP3 versions.
This is coming from someone who totally understands the considerable difference between FLAC and MP3. Played on a superior system, original CD flac files can sound tremendous compared to MP3s.
But this community is about sharing, not about collecting some sort of personal name and merit for recording the bootlegs. I've made a cover design, seen here:
http://www.akiraware.com/artwork/coveritbeginsintheheartfront.jpg
http://www.akiraware.com/artwork/coveritbeginsintheheartback.jpg
Now, normally as it's a piece of art, if someone took my art and changed it, I would be quite peeved. But this is unofficial stuff, made in my own spare time, for a community where material is shared. If changes in the design somehow helped some people, like for example someone making the type bigger so that visually impaired people could view it with more ease, that'd be great!
Sharing bootlegs is not about personal gain, egos and name value, it's about giving people what they need for their own collections, and potentially, they will give more back which makes everyone happy. If you can't deal with this, then I really think your in the wrong place.

Oh it's one of those forums is it where everyone jumps on one person and rips shreads out of them.
I consider myself well and trully told , thankyou , now drop the subject.
AND I think my original Artwork that came with the original torrent is better .
LOL.

unrulyboy January 4, 2007, 01:35 PM Keith-
I get why you may be disappointed or upset that someone converted your file to mp3, but could I ask a question?
If someone had asked you for permission to convert it, to share it in a community that rarely deals with .flac files, would you have allowed them to do so?
It's a hard argument to make that someone "stole" a show you uploaded to a file sharing site, and I'm sorry that you're disappointed that someone converted it without asking. That said, I hope you know how happy your sharing of the show has made many of us.
I appreciate the fact that you recorded it and kindly shared it, and I hope that you understand that converting it to mp3 was done to make it more widely available to others who would be grateful to have it, and grateful to you for recording it.
I'm not jumping on you. I just wanted to share a different perspective, and my appreciation for the fact that you recorded and shared the show. And thanks for buying and sharing the DVD from eBay. Very good of you.

Sigh... Are you 6 years old?
I was using the artwork as an example of what I was saying, to be honest, I'm not even too happy with it. If you'd taken notice, the artwork is not for the Birmingham show, it's for a festival performance from the summer. So whether it's better or not is irrelevant. I'm interested to see the art though, post it? I like to see new designs as I like to get inspiration from wherever.
Let me just remind, that you are the one who jumped down people's throats to begin with, with the whole .MP3 issue.

Rupert January 4, 2007, 01:51 PM Thanks for making me ill.
I think this comment is inappropriate. Whether or not you choose to get upset/angry is no ones fault. All of the posts in this thread have been perfectly reasonable.
BoyRacer January 4, 2007, 02:44 PM First off... DONT sit there and accuse me of Stealing anything. If this was your original bootleg, don't come crying to me when you...YOU post it in a public forum like smiths-torrents, then wonder why it is showing up on solo. What, you think this is copyrighted material because YOU bootlegged it? I can give two shits what you think or how pissed you may be, but ultimately your the one who initially posted it in a public forum on the internet, and until you figure out a way to control everyone on the internet stop crying about it.
Secondly, how can you accuse me of converting this file from flac to mp3. Additionally, how can you EVER make the request for people NOT to convert it to mp3 when its on the INTERNET. Yes I understand compression rates and audio quality, and I understand what your trying to accomplish, however you still can not control what happens to the bootleg once you release it.
Other items you need to consider before you go throwing arrows in my direction:
A. You don't own the rights to the bootleg!
B You posted it in a public forum in the first place
C. You can not control what people want to do with the show. I can piss all over it or convert it to a word document and ultimately you cant do SHIT.
D. If you dont want your stuff passed around and/or converted then STOP Posting it up for downloading on torrents.
E. Don't ever accuse me of stealing, when your the one posting it on a public forum. You don't know me.
F. Don't accuse me of changing your compression rates or altering your postings/files. If you have the proof that I was indeed the one that did, then you can come at me. But until that point...go fuck yourself.
G. Password protecting uploaded files DOES NOT WORK. So if you were considering that as an option, it doesn't work, it only delays release of your material.
H. As a side note, I didn't get your show off of the torrents site, I got it from another location. Sooooooooo apparently your show has spread faster and further than your initially thought.
Now, don't get me wrong. I do respect you as a bootlegger and as an audiophile that wants to have the best show possible out there for a particular date. I do think it would be a loss if you stopped sharing the gems that you have. But, don't come in her complaining and accusing me of stealing. Because ultimately all your gonna get from me is a big FUCK YOU VERY MUCH. Now if you could have come in here and asked me like an adult where I acquired that show, and addressed your concerns with me directly then we could have handled this on a whole different level. But, you chose to address me in the manner where you would just run in here and start shooting. Sadly, that is becoming a more and more typical mentality.

Lovely speech , loads of swear words , that's going to really make a difference.
I apologise for accusing you of stealing, I worded it wrong , there were personal messages sent to me on Smiths torrents saying that someone had taken it and put it on here in MP3 format , you might appreciate , i wasn't too pleased .
But all the hangers on that have had a go at me since , just makes me wonder why i put in on in the first place.
I only mentioned i had the recording when people were begging me to put the Wembley DVD on here.[ which they somehow found out by going on E-Bay]
It took me ages to work out how to seed it [ my first Torrent and last ] and now I get all this stick. I thought I was doing people a favour but this is the thanks I get.
LOOK , I'm Sorry for accusing you , lets keep this civil.
I wish everyone a Happy New Year and please let this drop.:D

maybe January 4, 2007, 03:32 PM Keith-
first of all, thank you very much for recording the show and sharing it on smithstorrents. I listened to it last night and thought it was a very good recording.
But please consider one thing: some people just cannot download big files. It would be a bit unfair to exclude those who are on dial up - and yes, there still are a lot of people who are. I know what I'm talking about, I didn't have broadband until about one year ago. I'm sure posting this here in mp3 has made a lot of people very happy. Yes, I know about the differences in quality, but seriously, if I was on dial-up and the only show I had been to surfaced on the internet I wouldn't give a fuck if the quality was slightly inferior, as long as I would be able to download it.
Thanks again for the bootleg and the Wembley DVD, it's really appreciated.

Yes, I agree we should keep this civil. The point I am making to you is that A. I didn't steal anything (Which we now agree upon), and B. I did not change the compression rate of your files. As a trader/collector for sometime now, I can appreciate a quality recording because god knows there are enough out there that sound like they have been recorded in someones pocket.
Just so you know the vastness of the spreading of this show, I have seen it on smiths-torrents, here, soulseek, and emule. I personally act only in the capacity as a filter point to assist in getting shows to the collectors. If there was a way to retain the original audio format and compression rates I would tell you, but I have yet to find one.
One final note I have is this: You can be upset with me for sharing your show or you can be glad that I did. But, at the end of the day I can care less of what you or anyone here thinks of me. I could walk away from this website at the drop of a hat and stop assisting in getting the shows to the other fans. But, I personally feel these shows need to be enjoyed by all regardless of the audio quality. Though I prefer the good sounding ones, as I imagine most do. I am a completest, meaning I will take it in any format regardless of sound quality. I do understand you bing pissed off, because I posted up some stuff here with my comments on the boot and how I recorded it and what not, only to find it on another site copied word for word and someone else taking the credit for it.
Anyhow, thats neither here nor there.

P.S. In the words of the once jacked up Rodney King "Can't we all just get along here?"
Joshu's Mu January 4, 2007, 05:37 PM Keith, I feel I have to weigh in here; my words will be more than civil.
I honestly was asking you the questions I asked for information's sake, not at all to 'rile' you or anyone up. I am sorry for you that you took it that way. I re-read my post in an attempt to see if I was, in fact, being smart-assy, but I can't find anything in there that was meant to be, or could easily be taken as, insensitive, etc. Perhaps writing being what it is, or isn't, tone is a hard thing to manifest, but the spirit of inquiry was, truly, the only one guiding my questions. If you've been hurt by this, I can't say I apologize, per se, but I can sympathize and wish you hadn't been.
Others before me on this thread have said very well, indeed, what I now think about this issue as an issue, so there's no need for me to go into it. But I will say thanks very much for the initial sharing. This, I feel, is what we are all about on this board. I hope you come back.

The Cat's Mother January 4, 2007, 06:46 PM Yes indeedy. First time I've been able to get hold of a gig I actually managed to attend! Thank you. :)
Missing Link January 4, 2007, 08:29 PM Hi,
Can someone put this on www.megaupload.com (http://www.megaupload.com) please ?. Sendspace doesn't work for me :(
Thanks!.
robert January 4, 2007, 09:51 PM This is a BIG reason that many tapers don't "release" their recordings to the general public. If someone goes through the effort of obtaining good equipment, spending the $ for tickets and travel, then hassles with editing the files and uploading them in lossless (with the only stipulation that they no be reconverted)....respect their wishes for F***s sake! If you don't respect tapers wishes, you'll just drive us away from sharing. I've taped >20 Moz shows and cringe every time I see one of mine shared here...especially when comments about sound quality come around. If you want good quality sound, don't judge by crappy mp3s @ 128 kbps.
In this case, a posting that a certain show is available should suffice for those interested. Yeah, you can do whatever you want with a show once it's released but I'm telling you there are a TON of uncirculated audience recordings that are not shared out because of this bullshit.
I also take issue with people taking partial credit for downloading then reuploading somewhere else. If you want credit, buy a rig, go to a gig and tape away.
ShirleyManson January 4, 2007, 09:57 PM Thank you for this :)
DavidA January 4, 2007, 11:00 PM Such short-sightedness! Whatever your politics isn't it prudent to appease the people that provide the recordings in the first place?
Spacestation January 4, 2007, 11:16 PM download limit !
Tom January 4, 2007, 11:48 PM I agree, you should respect the wishes of the person who actually recorded the show. Some people on this forum are just obnoxious children.
Patrick January 4, 2007, 11:51 PM I agree with everything Robert said. As a long time Moz taper myself who has personally taped well over 30 shows I can tell you with 100% certainty that many tapers (myself included) are reluctant to share their recordings on Smiths torrents (or other torrent sites) for reasons just like this.
As a taper, I would not want my shows posted on various forums in lossy mp3 either. If the taper wanted to post an mp3 version of his recording, I'm sure he would. MP3 corrupts the trading circle… people who collect mp3 shows assume that they are just as accepted as the lossless version, and that of course is just not the case. The major technical issue with mp3 and other lossy formats is that the information that is lost forever that cannot be retrieved once encoding is done. Also, you have no idea how a particular file is encoded. Most people just use generic tools and encoders and the end result is crappy sounding mp3s.
And while the loss of quality is certainly an issue, it is also the way in which it is presented and just thrown out there without care for quality or even reference to the taper. I think people should have more respect and appreciation for the tapers who actually provide their work and not give thanks to someone who essentially leeches the file, encodes it to a lossy format and simply posts it elsewhere… especially when the taper clearly indicated his request for this show not to be re encoded. So while you might come off like some hero to the masses here that happily download any gig in any quality, to us (the people who actually take time to record the gigs) you are just an asshole. If you at least would acknowledge or thank the person who actually recorded and uploaded the show that would be at least one thing, but you don’t even do that.
There is a lot of work that goes into taping a show. I am sure there are some people that think recording a show consists of sneaking in a $15 voice recorder and stick it out of your jacket pocket to record the show. No, I am not talking about someone simply recording with a phone or a crappy recorder (although they do exist), I am talking about someone who has spent some money on decent recording gear (digital recorder, pro microphones, digital soundcard, etc..) and goes through great lengths to obtain a nice recording of the concert. As a taper, you are sacrificing your enjoyment of the show in order to preserve the concert. You have to smuggle your gear in, set up, and try to find a spot that will provide the best sound (forget about trying to get close to the stage, that's not happening if you are a taper). You have to be perfectly quiet (and still) during the entire concert so not to screw up the recording, while at the same time being mindful of those around you... talkers, security, etc. It's not always an easy thing. For me, I take great care and pride with my recordings. I make sure to transfer them digitally and then apply some light mastering to get the best sound possible. All this time and effort that one puts in to their recordings creates a sense of pride for their efforts and when you share it with others, you want them to know where it came from (the lineage, what equipment was used, etc..) I think that is fair and simple enough. There are people that are just oblivious to all the effort that went into providing them with this show they so happily download. A good audio recording requires both skill and money (for equipment, travel, tickets, etc,) so why shouldn’t the person who made the recording care about what happens to it?
This act and the subsequent attitudes shown in this thread offer a prime example of why many good tapers do not circulate their recordings, and why a lot of the best audio recordings are not available to the average fan. That is why for me personally, I prefer to trade with other tapers only as they understand and get the art of it.
Lazarus January 5, 2007, 01:28 AM download limit !
what (s)he said
anyone would reupload this ?
Godlovesugly January 5, 2007, 02:56 AM Has anyone noticed that 99.9% of audio bootlegs posted on here are in mp3 format?
If someone kindly downloaded the flacs then upped them on say megaupload i'm positive someone would say "can someone post these in mp3" maybe there is a reason for that, although i massively appreciate everything "tapers" go through and how lovely it is that they record these shows...i find it a bit much for people to get so annoyed and hurt when mp3's of their recording appear on message boards...firstly everyone appreciates it that you have recorded them but we don't want to be told what we should do with them...if i wanted to put some real ill bass over the top and crank up the tempo put some gun sound effects over the top of this concert and then repost it on here and say "download this ill mutha" and if someone downloaded it fully aware of what i'd done to it then that's their choice.
BUT as you can see here people are just sharing a show in mp3 because that's what people want....i'm also downloading this from the torrent as i went to this show and i would like to have the best quality version....but people who just want to listen to the concert...maybe never listen to it again? should be welcome to it.
Just my thoughts on this.
robertzombie January 5, 2007, 02:06 PM And to add to Godlovesugly's post, can I just say that not everyone has enough space on their Hard Drive to save all these flac shows, and not everyone has enough space in their house to copy them all to cd.

We could all debate the pros/cons of mp3 use. I turn all of my flacs into mp3s to listen to on my ipod. I haven't burned an audio disc in 2 years...files get stored in original format on external HDD or DVD-Rs.
I agree mp3's have their place....but NOT in trading (repeted reencoding of mp3s produces unrecoverable errors as more frequecies are clipped) and definitely not WHEN THE TAPER / SHARER ASKES FOR IT NOT TO BE SHARED IN THAT FORMAT. Mp3 for personal use only should be the rule.
9 x Fined January 5, 2007, 07:48 PM The hilarious thing is that on a audience recorded bootleg, not even the best of ears could tell if it was flac or mp3.
And taking a file from a another site, posting it here and then taking the credit for it is gay.

Which didn't happen the OP got the bootleg from a different source not the torrent...although someone must've downloaded the torrent then changed it to mp3...no one here did it, it was someone else like the OP said.
