View Full Version : At its heart, "Camden" which I don't believe has been performed live is about?

Enjoy. :)

I love camden.

Its a song that touches my soul, i dont know for what reason. I havent been to london or seen the river thames. I think your poll choices are spot on, i had troubling picking one, i think it is a combination of a few. I think above all camden is a work of art and hard to define and formulate.

Is "your leg came to rest against mine, then you lounged with knees up and apart" uniquely British?

I'm happy that this song has mystifyed someone other than myself.

I was dissapointed that the song didnt do so well in the morrissey song poll. But...now...not so much. It doesn't matter if the song is judged or not. To me it is in another stratosphere...floating about.

Your entire comment resonated with me. I can tell you that the line you quoted is not...practically speaking...tied to any country. What I mean to say is that I have lived the line with a girlfriend from college many years ago for that is exactly how it happened. And me and my heart we just knew.

This song just shows how multi-faceted Moz is as a vocalist. An amazing track, totally removed from the likes of Irish Blood & First Of The Gang. It makes me think of West End musicals. It's very much like a show tune in my opinion. Sumptuous, theatrical & very well executed; & that's just the tune & performance. The lyrics leave you pondering, as so many of Mozzer's do.
Genius!

Yes, I don't think legs are specifically British. :D

THE best song on "Quarry". The first time I heard it, I almost collapsed...I think it's the key changes that make it so effective, that and the falsetto....

I agree - very theatrical…almost cinematic.

Fantastic discussion in the thread below. I'm curious to see what some of the newer users think the song is about. It's also evident that the relationship was real…
