Sharky
July 28, 2006, 03:35 AM
I've named myself Sharky after the character of animated series "Eek the cat" - a vicious and pathologically agressive little doggy, which looks like a shark with tiny extremities attached to it's body. Can't say I identify myself with this creature, but I like the character, it kicks ass and is very funny indeed.
And what about you? Why have you named yourselves the way you did? Do you use other usernames on other forums?

Mine is dull, it's just "Dallow" from that Morrissey song, which is from that book.

July 28, 2006, 07:31 AM
Rather boring really,I responded to a Sparks thread on the old board and called myself Sparks fan and the name just stuck for some reason.
I like so many bands and artists I could be any name really and as for the Mod in my profile it should be ex mod by rights as I havent been one since the 70`s,but it sounds good...I like the ambiguity too, although it would be nice to actually have the power to edit and delete all the posts I disagree with and especially from the posters I dislike...real forum mods dont do that though do they?

It was one of the most neutral, anonymous name I could think of, You have to be clinically insane to use your real name here with some of the beasts that lurk around these parts; just waiting for that moment to "google you" to obtain your personal data, raping you of your self respect, dignity and pride, leaving you sobbing in a pool of tears.

I used to be very thin until I discovered women and beer, and people used to call me Skinny. The Uncle bit came when I started playing guitar and singing - a bit like the Grumbleweeds character Uncle Disgusting, I tagged the Uncle bit on the front, so there it was, Uncleskinny. Oddly enough there's a clip on Youtube of some fake old TV advice thing fronted by a chap named "Uncle Skinny".

Wild Oscar
July 28, 2006, 01:09 PM
Although it's fairly obvious, there is another element/twist.
i am a fan/admirer of Oscar Wilde, as, of course, is Moz. so that's straightforward.
My nickname used to be (+ still is to some) Hoss.
Being from northern england, however, the h got dropped a lot, then a couple of friends started extending the name 'Oss to Oscar, then to Oscar Wilde.
Easy, really, wasn't it?

Even though I'm perfectly aware of the denotation of your username, I just can't help thinking about poodle every time I see it! Probably has something to do with the Russian connotations and subconsciously reading "u" as [u:].

hey dupree, what's the story again behind your 'signature'? or did you tell this already?
++++++
July 29, 2006, 06:57 PM
Not much of a story here. When I first started visiting the old Moz-Solo boards, it was really just to download all of the goodies that people would post. I felt the need to thank people who'd post bootlegs and rarities, and I figured it would be a bit more meaningful with a username (but at the time I wasn't all that interested in being a part of the community) so I just typed in some pluses. Didn't really give it any thought. When the board switched to VBulletin I thought about changing my username to kryptondog, which is what I use everywhere else, but I kind of liked the ++++++, so it stuck.

The movie might not be the whole nine yards in terms of love & amour but it captures reality. It's about 2 discontent people finding companionship in each other miles away from home. They are lost not only culturally but their lives too. They get a pact, and maybe more but for the sake of marriage and age difference there's no time for blunt romance in this picture. Which I think makes it more beautiful. You can all put your own fantasy in it. Because it's closer to reality. Oh yes: the last whispering makes your intrepetation run wild, doesn't it. Mine at least...

Ha! This is a good question! Mine is easy: My name is Cecilia and here in Chile when a woman gets married to a man, she doesn't change her maiden name, but she adds her husband's name by the word "DE" that means "of", stating clearly that from that moment on she belongs to that man. So, i.E. with simple names: Maria García De Gonzalez (her maiden name is García, but since she's married to Mr González, she states through her name that she "belongs" to her husband by using his last name after "de")...
Soooooo... If I made it clear to you: I married Morrissey and I became Cecilia de Morrissey, or shorter Ceci De Morrissey... Hahahaha.. In my dreams...

"Spending warm summer days indoors, writing frightening verse, to a buck tooth girl from Luxembourg", from Ask, one of my fave Smiths songs.
I always wondered what type of verse would be written to this girl? Why she lived in Luxembourg? If she wrote back? Why didn't she go to the dentist to get her teeth fixed?!
It's about his pen-pal from before he became famous...I think somebody had the letter they wrote in one of the threads here. Supposedly he sent her a picture of himself and she ended up like trading it for a picture of Scott Baio or somebody like that...at least that is what it said in the thread...you might want to search for it...it was a good read.

I saw a documentary on the beegees on tv years ago (1973) & the producer (associate) was none other than a Mr Grim O'Grady, he's retired now but he did climb to fame on many shows for Granada tv, bless him, he lives in Cheshire now with his papilion dogs (4), so I thought what a great name, I looked him up in the phone book but he must be ex-directory or summat, so I took it without his consent.

You're almost right, Morrissey's former pen pal who traded his pic was actually from Norway, as far as I remember. And this is the pic she supposedly traded with a Smiths fan:
http://foreverill.com/gallery/data/media/106/youngmoz.jpg
But he could have another one from Luxemburg, or not - I think it's more likely that he just put Luxemburg in the song because it fit in better ("writing frightening verse to a buck-toothed girl from Norway"... hmmm).
I think that the line refers to someone who sits at home all the time and mostly communicates with pen pals far away, people that he hasn't seen, and will probably never see. The pen-pal might have crooked teeth, or not - he might just be referring to the fact that he doesn't know what she looks like; or maybe he does, but it doesn't matter as their relationship will never go beyond writing letters. It's easier for him to communicate with someone far away, than with someone who might be right there, because it's so much more difficult for him (and maybe for the other person, too) to get the courage to speak to someone in person, ask them out etc.

I left and returned under this name posting, don't you find it absurd? It stuck.

ok, i ll tell you the truth about grim's name....
It was the late 80's, he was holidaying in Greece (on Crete island to be exact). I was studying English while working (summer job) at Daddy's, a greek coffeeshop my uncle owns. He was with a red haired lady (slum mum i assume). He ordered two capuccino with cream. (Back then we only served greek traditional coffee, no idea what capuccino and cream was) My english was lame, so with great awe in my eyes and genuine suprise i repeated to him the only word i caught ... grrrrrim? sir? griiiiiim?
you can guess the rest of the story.
