OK, just about to go to bed, thought it only decent of me to say goodnight, just going upstairs without passing on my regards would be too rude.

Feel free to make this your place to sign off for the night (it might help others work out why you're not online for example?).......

Anyway, goodnight, sleep tight.

See yer tomorrow.

Soooo... Which song do you recommend for going to sleep? Normally I would choose Asleep but last night I cried my eyes out because of it. Anyways... I obviously won't be waiting for an answer ;) Good night!

My mum used to sing me a song "Go to sleep my baby, close your pretty eyes, it's time for little boys to go to sleep, time for little boys to go to sleep".

Aw, ain't that cute?

Aw, ain't that cute?

Sure is, I'm melting down :)

While I was able to listen to Dire Straits, I found Why Worry quite comforting and lullaby-like:

Baby I see this world has made you sad
Some people can be bad
The things they do, the things they say
But baby I'll wipe away those bitter tears
I'll chase away those restless fears
That turn your blue skies into grey

Why worry, there should be laughter after pain
There should be sunshine after rain
These things have always been the same
So why worry now
Why worry now

Baby when I get down I turn to you
And you make sense of what I do
I know it isn't hard to say
But baby just when this world seems mean and cold
Our love comes shining red and gold
And all the rest is by the way

Why worry, there should be laughter after pain
There should be sunshine after rain
These things have always been the same
So why worry now
Why worry now

Sorry to bring this sunken ship of a thread back to the surface but I'm off now.

I'm going home, having had the most boring few days in work, hot and sweaty.

I'm going home to get changed then I'm off for a nice dinner at the Albert Dock followed by too many glasses of wine (so expect some drunken posts later tonight perhaps!).

Bye for now.

Well, I got home from the dinner, and during another bottle of wine tried to log onto this site. But alas I could not, I think BT had some issues with their network that prevented me from accessing any US site that I could think of.

So, I had to VPN onto my work network and then hop onto an office PC with Internet Access. This method is slow and video quality is poor.

This I did but you know, I was drunk, I proved to myself that I was clever enough to think of an alternative way to get on but then I realised that I must be a pretty sad individual to go to such troubles.

And anyway, as you well know, I came on, saw that my favourite people were not on at that time, so logged off again.

Then I finished my wine.

So apologies but I'm sure your life can do without any more stupid posts from me.

Sorry for being off-topic here (if there is any topic ;) ) but I was having the same problems lately. It's really annoying! I first thought that it has something to do with V-bulletin, as the other message board I tried to log on was powered by it as well, but then I thought about the main page, that was not loading either. I even called the fuckers and they said I have an excellent speed and that the problems are with that web sites!

Goodnight

Sleepless nights don't bother me at all
If dawn comes I won't worry
Something deep inside keeps me awake
wish that you were here right beside me
recall when I was very young
and could not go to sleep
My father sang me songs to make me tired
But memories don't make it easier so
Goodnight
wherever you are sleeping
and I hope that if you dream
you dream of me.
Oh goodnight
wherever you are sleeping
and I hope that if you dream
you dream of me
Now I lie awake and it's no fun
tossing and turning
I'd call you if it weren't so very late
but telephones don't bring you close to me
I recall the times we stayed up late
Wide awake but still dreaming
There was nothing on this earth could make me tired
but memories don't make it easier so
Goodnight
wherever you are sleeping
and I hope that if you dream
you dream of me.
Goodnight
wherever you are sleeping
and I hope that if you dream
you dream of me

Good night from Keats:

To sleep
O soft embalmer of the still midnight,
Shutting, with careful fingers and benign,
Our gloom-pleased eyes, embowered from the light,
Enshaded in forgetfulness divine:
O soothest Sleep! if so it please thee, close,
In midst of this thine hymn, my willing eyes,
Or wait the «Amen», ere thy hoppy throws
Around my bed its lulling charities.
Then save me, or the passed day will shine
Upon my pillow, breeding many woes, -
Save me from curious conscience, that still lords
Its strength for darkness, bun-owing like a mole;
Turn the key deftly in the oiled wards,
And. seal the hushed casket of my soul.

To Say Before Going to Sleep

I would like to sing someone to sleep,
have someone to sit by and be with.
I would like to cradle you and softly sing,
be your companion while you sleep or wake.
I would like to be the only person
in the house who knew: the night outside was cold.
And would like to listen to you
and outside to the world and to the woods.

The clocks are striking, calling to each other,
and one can see right to the edge of time.
Outside the house a strange man is afoot
and a strange dog barks, wakened from his sleep.
Beyond that there is silence.

My eyes rest upon your face wide-open;
and they hold you gently, letting you go
when something in the dark begins to move.

/Rainer Maria Rilke

Before Sleep

http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/1254/yellowdaisyze0.gif

The lateral vibrations caress me,
They leap and caress me,
They work pathetically in my favour,
They seek my financial good.

She of the spear stands present.
The gods of the underworld attend me, O Annubis,
These are they of thy company.
With a pathetic solicitude they attend me;
Undulant,
Their realm is the lateral courses.

Light!
I am up to follow thee, Pallas.
Up and out of their caresses.
You were gone up as a rocket,
Bending your passages from right to left and from left to right
In the flat projection of a spiral.
The gods of drugged sleep attend me,
Wishing me well;
I am up to follow thee, Pallas.

When you can't get any sleep, you can curse the sandman or:
Then the Swallow flew back to the Happy Prince, and told him what he had done. "It is curious," he remarked, "but I feel quite warm now, although it is so cold."

"That is because you have done a good action," said the Prince. And the little Swallow began to think, and then he fell asleep. Thinking always made him sleepy.

Good night from me and Mary Oliver:

Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting--
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

Something Childish, But Very Natural

http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/5362/candle01juneuw6.gif

If I had but two little wings
And were a little feathery bird,
To you I'd fly, my dear!
But thoughts like these are idle things,
And I stay here.

But in my sleep to you I fly:
I'm always with you in my sleep!
The world is all one's own.
But then one wakes, and where am I?
All, all alone.

Sleep stays not, though a monarch bids:
So I love to wake ere break of day:
For though my sleep be gone,
Yet while 'tis dark, one shuts one's lids,
And still dreams on.

madmen in stone houses
without doors,
lepers steaming love and song
frogs trying to figure
the sky;
sway with me, sad things --
fingers split on a forge
old age like breakfast shell
used books, used people
used flowers, used love
I need you
I need you
I need you:
it has run away
like a horse or a dog,
dead or lost
or unforgiving.

Jesus Christ! How do you do it??

Shes in fucking Europe! People don't sleep in Europe. If they do a dictator takes over something.

Americans, on the other hand, are so lazy as a collective society there is never anyone willing to be a dictator, so we sleep!

wolve
October 1, 2006, 08:43 AM

What's the time in America, it must be around 5AM or something? Why aren't you asleep then? :)

Sir Alec

It is 4:44 AM and I can't sleep until the Nyquil kicks in for my Flu. Oh, I think I've taken 3 times the suggested dosage of Nyquil and I still don't feel it... well, it's only been 5 minutes.

wolve

Bon Nuit, mes chers:

Sensation

Mais l'amour infini me montera dans l'âme ;
Et j'irai loin, bien loin, comme un bohémien,
Par la Nature, heureux- comme avec une femme.

Just the color of diamond
Just the color
The frayed color of ice

Alright, now I'm going for good. Just to leave on a high (or low) note I've always felt as if this song was written for me...

edit: In this case Chica can be the one that sings it to me as I fall asleep.

Now if you can stand,
I would like to take you by the hand, yeah,
and go for a walk,
past people as they go to work.

Oh, let's get out of this place,
before they tell us that we've just died.
Move, move quick, you've gotta move.
Come on it's through, come on it's time.
Oh look at you, you,
you're looking so confused,
just what did you lose?

If you can make an
order could you get me one?
Two sugars would be great,
cos I'm fading fast,
and it's nearly dawn.

If they knocked down this place, this place,
it'd still look much better than you.
Move, move quick, you've gotta move.
Come on it's through, come on it's time.
Oh look at you, you,
you're looking so confused,
what did you lose?
Oh, it's ok it's just your mind.

If we get through this alive,
I'll meet you next week, same place, same time.
Oh move, move quick you've gotta move.
Come on it's through, come on it's time.
Oh look at you, you,
you're looking so confused,
what did you lose?

That's what you get from clubbing it.
You can't go home and go to bed,
because it hasn't worn off yet,
and now it's morning.
There's only one place we can go.
It's around the corner in Soho,
where other broken people go.
Let's go.

Your Catfish Friend
by Richard Brautigan

If I were to live my life
in catfish forms
in scaffolds of skin and whiskers
at the bottom of a pond
and you were to come by one evening
when the moon was shining
down into my dark home
and stand there at the edge
of my affection
and think, "It's beautiful
here by this pond. I wish
somebody loved me,"

I'd love you and be your catfish
friend and drive such lonely
thoughts from your mind
and suddenly you would be
at peace,
and ask yourself, "I wonder
if there are any catfish
in this pond? It seems like
a perfect place for them."

Well, kids, I'm on off to the land of nod.

The last song I hear will be:

And if the snow buries my,
my neighborhood.
And if my parents are crying
then I'll dig a tunnel
from my window to yours,
yeah a tunnel from my window to yours.
You climb out the chimney
and meet me in the middle,
the middle of the town.
And since there's no one else around,
we let our hair grow long
and forget all we used to know,
then our skin gets thicker
from living out in the snow.

You change all the lead
sleepin' in my head,
as the day grows dim
I hear you sing a golden hymn.

Oh, and Clyde? I'm fixin'ta sleep with one eye open and a Winchester b'side my bed. You'd best do the same!

Love and Sleep

Lying asleep between the strokes of night
I saw my love lean over my sad bed,
Pale as the duskiest lily's leaf or head,
Smooth-skinned and dark, with bare throat made to bite,
Too wan for blushing and too warm for white,
But perfect-coloured without white or red.
And her lips opened amorously, and said--
I wist not what, saving one word--Delight.
And all her face was honey to my mouth,
And all her body pasture to mine eyes;
The long lithe arms and hotter hands than fire,
The quivering flanks, hair smelling of the south,
The bright light feet, the splendid supple thighs
And glittering eyelids of my soul's desire.

I remeber how it all started... You didn't know who Spencer Cobrin was... That's the very first thing that attracted me about you! Every time you don't know something the old flame comes back! :)

WAWAWAWAWait! You didn't know Spencer James Cobrin? Hes only the sexiest member of Morrissey's band ever!

Longing
by Matthew Arnold

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again.
For then the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

Come, as thou cam'st a thousand times,
A messenger from radiant climes,
And smile on thy new world, and be
As kind to others as to me.

Or, as thou never cam'st in sooth,
Come now, and let me dream it truth.
And part my hair, and kiss my brow,
And say My love! why sufferest thou?

Come to me in my dreams, and then
By day I shall be well again.
For then the night will more than pay
The hopeless longing of the day.

Love Sonnet LXXIX

By night, Love, tie your heart to mine, and the two
together in their sleep will defeat the darkness
like a double drum in the forest, pounding
against the thick wall of wet leaves.

Night travel: black flame of sleep
that snips the threads of the earth's grapes,
punctual as a headlong train that would haul
shadows and cold rocks, endlessly.

Because of this, Love, tie me to a purer motion,
to the constancy that beats in your chest
with the wings of a swan underwater,

so that our sleep might answer all the sky's
starry questions with a single key,
with a single door the shadows had closed.

No PM's, so good night.

Eliot says it so much better than I ever could.

T.S. Eliot (1888–1965). Prufrock and Other Observations. 1917.

1. The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock

LET us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherised upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats 5
Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
Streets that follow like a tedious argument
Of insidious intent
To lead you to an overwhelming question … 10
Oh, do not ask, “What is it?”
Let us go and make our visit.

In the room the women come and go
Talking of Michelangelo.

The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes, 15
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap, 20
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the house, and fell asleep.

And indeed there will be time
For the yellow smoke that slides along the street,
Rubbing its back upon the window-panes; 25
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate; 30
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea.

In the room the women come and go 35
Talking of Michelangelo.

And indeed there will be time
To wonder, “Do I dare?” and, “Do I dare?”
Time to turn back and descend the stair,
With a bald spot in the middle of my hair— 40
[They will say: “How his hair is growing thin!”]
My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin,
My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pin—
[They will say: “But how his arms and legs are thin!”]
Do I dare 45
Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.

For I have known them all already, known them all:—
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons, 50
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?

And I have known the eyes already, known them all— 55
The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase,
And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin,
When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall,
Then how should I begin
To spit out all the butt-ends of my days and ways? 60
And how should I presume?

And I have known the arms already, known them all—
Arms that are braceleted and white and bare
[But in the lamplight, downed with light brown hair!]
It is perfume from a dress 65
That makes me so digress?
Arms that lie along a table, or wrap about a shawl.
And should I then presume?
And how should I begin?
. . . . .
Shall I say, I have gone at dusk through narrow streets 70
And watched the smoke that rises from the pipes
Of lonely men in shirt-sleeves, leaning out of windows?…

I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of silent seas.
. . . . .
And the afternoon, the evening, sleeps so peacefully! 75
Smoothed by long fingers,
Asleep … tired … or it malingers,
Stretched on the floor, here beside you and me.
Should I, after tea and cakes and ices,
Have the strength to force the moment to its crisis? 80
But though I have wept and fasted, wept and prayed,
Though I have seen my head [grown slightly bald] brought in upon a platter,
I am no prophet—and here’s no great matter;
I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker,
And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker, 85
And in short, I was afraid.

And would it have been worth it, after all,
After the cups, the marmalade, the tea,
Among the porcelain, among some talk of you and me,
Would it have been worth while, 90
To have bitten off the matter with a smile,
To have squeezed the universe into a ball
To roll it toward some overwhelming question,
To say: “I am Lazarus, come from the dead,
Come back to tell you all, I shall tell you all”— 95
If one, settling a pillow by her head,
Should say: “That is not what I meant at all.
That is not it, at all.”

And would it have been worth it, after all,
Would it have been worth while, 100
After the sunsets and the dooryards and the sprinkled streets,
After the novels, after the teacups, after the skirts that trail along the floor—
And this, and so much more?—
It is impossible to say just what I mean!
But as if a magic lantern threw the nerves in patterns on a screen: 105
Would it have been worth while
If one, settling a pillow or throwing off a shawl,
And turning toward the window, should say:
“That is not it at all,
That is not what I meant, at all.”
. . . . . 110
No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be;
Am an attendant lord, one that will do
To swell a progress, start a scene or two,
Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool,
Deferential, glad to be of use, 115
Politic, cautious, and meticulous;
Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse;
At times, indeed, almost ridiculous—
Almost, at times, the Fool.

I grow old … I grow old … 120
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.

Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?
I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.

I do not think that they will sing to me. 125

I have seen them riding seaward on the waves
Combing the white hair of the waves blown back
When the wind blows the water white and black.

We have lingered in the chambers of the sea
By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown 130
Till human voices wake us, and we drown.

Let us sleep just far enough away
From every angry sound the city makes
And hold our dreams just close enough to stay awake
Through empty streets
In silent broken light
Let's make friends with the night and with the dark
And sleep like snow that falls in silver bands
Waking holding hands
And catching sparks

It's All I Have To Bring To-day
by Emily Dickinson

It's all I have to bring to-day,
This, and my heart beside,
This, and my heart , and all the fields,
And all the meadows wide.
Be sure you count, should I forget, --
Someone the sum could tell, --
This, and my heart , and all the bees
Which in the clover dwell.
