Since people are always making a lot of how Morrissey pinches a few of his lyrics from time to time I was wondering if anyone has heard any songs that Morrissey's band have 'borrowed' from.

The ones I've noticed are

Certain People I Know - Ride A White Swan, T Rex

I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday (the outro at least) - Rock N Roll Suicide, David Bowie

My love life - Subway train, NY Dolls
Mute witness - Virginia plain, Roxy music
Panic - Metal guru, T Rex

The bridge in I'll never be anybody's hero now is very Lady grining soul, David Bowie

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now is a straight re-working of I Am Two People, especially the beginnings, which are identical.

I saw an old rock band on TV once with the exact same drum beat as the start of operation. They definitely did it first but havent a clue who they were. Anyone know?

We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful - Boys Don't Cry by The Cure

(also whenever I hear the beginning of Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself I think it will develop into The Lonely Little Thriftstore by Jonathan Richman. That's just me anyway :p But the song is SO not Vauxhall and I...)

I am truly shocked  stunned  and amazed  that a Moz fan is comparing a Morrissey to a gonk tune! :D

I know 'Certain people I know' rips off 'Ride a White Swan' but it also rips off a Shakin' Steven's song though I cant recall which one!

There's a band demo of "Boy Racer" floating about, from the Miraval Sessions in France, 1995 - it sounds exactly like the truly awful "Final Countdown" by that band Europe.

Definitely!! There have been times 'I'll Never Be...' has come onto my mp3 player and I have idley sung 'I am two people...one of which you know..' sorta thing at the beginning then realised it's 'I'll Never Be...'. You're not alone with this idea.

There's an instrumental snippet towards the end of Ambitious Outsiders that sounds uncannily like something the mad-but-lovely Tom Waits might have recorded. Clank-grind-skree-boing!

In The Future When All's Well - Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice: The same opening!it's so clear...

And also Rusholme Ruffians - His latest Flame by Elvis: Same opening, but faster one. Morrissey never tried to hide that "steal", "Rank" is the definitive prove:cool:

Oh, and today, when I heard "The Father Who Must Be Killed", it somehow reminded me Garbage's "Stupid Girl".

I've just been listening to The Beatles - Rubber Soul LP. Run For Your Life has just played and it started me singing Sweet And Tender Hooligan!

Well the riff to 'cigarettes and alcohol' is taken from 'get on' by T Rex. Will the plagerism never stop?

I've just realized that the beginning of "Pigsty" sounds like the beginning of "Brothers In Arms"! I was listening to "Brothers In Arms" and suddenly I found myself expecting it to continue as "Pigsty".

I haven't really noticed with Moz songs but, the other day, I noticed that Muse stole a lyric from the smiths
"From the people who care if I live or die"- Being a massive Muse fan I was rather touched by it- good old Muse- good to see their influences reflected in their music. :)

The Editors' "Munich" also reminds me of "William, It Was Really Nothing" because of the opening line "this wicked city drags you down".

At the end of the line "How'd you think I let you get away/With all the things you say to me?", you can easily sing the chorus from "Everyday Is Like Sunday":)

The opening of 'On The Streets I Ran' is similar to 'Shaking Through' from R.E.M.

I have another example which is very similar to the "I like you" and "Everyday is like Sunday"-phenomenon.

It is "Bengali in Platforms" and "the boy with the thorn in his side".
When in "Bengali..." Moz sings ...just because I'm the one to tell you
that life is hard enough when you belong here... you can switch over to and if they don't believe me now will they ever believe me? from "Boy with thorn..."

Bit of an obvious theft, but one of The Ordinary Boys' singles echoed a line from "The Boy Racer". I think it was called "Seaside".

Jack the Ripper guitar riff = Boys Don't Cry guiart riff

Razorlights lyric "there's nothing on the TV nothing on the Radio that means that much to me" reminds me of Panics "the music that they constanly play, says nothing to me about my life"

The chorus melody to 'I Would Do Anything For Love (but I won't do that)' by Meat Loaf is very similar to the chorus melody of a Morrissey single.
But can you guess which one?!
