Last Mr. Morrissey album - weakest in years...

America song - tired anti-american crap... BTW, Estonia is one of the very few pro-American countries in Eastern Europe, 'cause they are afraid to be swallowed by Russia..

next song - another weal PCX lyrics, but at least decent melody...

"i will brave a rain and snow to moon you," well not exactly Ezra Pound or Yeats for ya, poetry lovers...

last song o0f the album... are we supposed to feel for singer drawning in luxuries... weak lyrics, excellent melody

overall, nice production, the CD-product perfectly suited for 14-year-old Catholic school girl...

If you are into real shit, better to buy Kelis and 50 Cents: they are way more "here, now" then greying IRRELEVANT melodramatic ambisexual englishman.

if you want real Poet. listen to late Elliot Smith, bro!

You are absolutely right, thank you, if it wasn't for you I would never have seen the light.

I can't believe how wrong I was in thinking that there was any real value in Morrissey's latest effort. I mean, I can relate to a lot of his lyrics, and that makes me feel better about myself. But as you so wisely pointed out, Morrissey isn't real shit (unlike 50 Cent, who definitely is shit) and therefore isn't worth listening to.

How selfless it was of you to spend precious time on a message board of an artist you don't really like and show us the error of our ways. Really, its comforting to know that there are people like you in the world..

Since you think the bland, whiny Elliott Smith is better than Morrissey, your opinion is automatically discounted.

I appreciate Smith's work... though the "Beatlesque" melodies irk me a little; his minor-key numbers are great. He is missed.

* * *

at a party he was waiting
looking kind of spooky and withdrawn
like he could be underwater
the mighty mother with her hundred arms

swept all aside
I hate to walk behind other people's ambition
I saw you waiting
saint like with your warning
leave alone, you don't belong here

he got nervous, started whistling
every thought a ricochet
did you notice, well I wondered
what's the worst thing I could say

and I froze up and sighed
you remind me of someones daughter
I forgot her, I forgot her name ashamed
go home and live with your pain
leave alone, leave alone'cause you know you don't belong
you don't belong here

and when I go don't you follow
leave alone, leave alone'cause you know you don't belong
you don't belong here
slip out quiet, nobody's looking
leave alone, you don't belong here

I have uploaded Smith's masterpiece to yousendit.com, for those who have yet to be graced.

"Whispering his way into your heart with the voice of an angel, Elliott's new solo record, Either/Or, is the type of music you'd hear in Heaven's elevator: While everything's nice and pretty, you're still pretty bummed out that you died.

Smith shares all his personal secrets with us like other Smiths before him. (i.e. The Smiths, The Cure's Robert Smith, etc.) The result is nothing less than Zoloftian genius. I'll put money down that says this is the best album Kill Rock Stars releases for a couple of months."

50 cent with his hateful bile, no thankes. I'd Rather a bit of honesty, someone speaking about life rather than fiction to suit the fickle reader.

Anti-American and why? Alot of Americans are anti-American, its no coincidence. Have you interviewed any estonians lately?

Babble babble again and again he turns round to find that ye has been replaced and thee remains anything but untouched.

Didya listen to the songs at all?
I think you'll find that on 'America Is Not The World' Moz is not being anti-American; after all, he intones 'I love you' to the country more than once. He's lamenting what its popular culture stands for and how the rest of the world see it ... a popular culture, may I add, that is epitomised by the ludicrously overblown Kelis and 50 Cent. Do you know that a study was compiled a few years back into popular British and American Hip Hop, whereby fans and ordinary folk from the black and asian communities were asked to explain some of the words used in songs ... nobody had a bloody clue what half these rappers were talking about. That's because words had just been invented to fit a rhyme. You might as well listen to MC Solar (French artist) for all the sense it will make; in fact, he sounds ten times better than any of this commercial crap pouring out of the radio, probably because he has something to say rather than, yo beeatch, check out my bling ... bring back The Sugarhill Gang I say.
At least you can't deny Morrissey's poetic talent, whether you like his style or not. Ok, maybe there are one or two weaker lines on 'YATQ' ... but didn't that bit in 'IHFJ' make you laugh? It was there for that reason ... much more amusing than Eminem's latest drivel 'Ass Like That'; to think Mr Mather's once had the makings of a decent poet too.
Furthermore, the 'Estonia' line will have more meaning than we can figure out without knowing Mozzer's point of reference ... he's an elusive bugger; don't tell me that you figured out half the references in The Smiths' repetoire without resorting to reading up on the songs.
Also, judging by the fuss made over Moz in the press and amongst other bands, he's far from irrelevant.
I agree that Eliot Smith is good; Waltz #2 is one of my favourite songs. But I wouldn't say he could rival Morrissey for marrying poetic lyrics to a tune. His style was a bit too experimental at times ... call me a stick in the mud, but if it's out of key, it's not really for me.
Just a question though; do you read Yeats or Pound? Do you listen to Eliot Smith? Or did you just pick two of the most controversial Modernist poets and a feted dead rock star to make you look clever?

50 cent? are you having a fucking laugh?
"i'll take you to the candy shop/ i'll let you lick my lolly pop"
- hardly lyrical genius is it? the fact that drivel like that is "here now" is also coincidently the whole point of "Crashing Bores"
