I made this mix for a friend who thinks The Smiths are pretty good but hasn't listened to much Morrissey save for the first album which she thought was "OK."
So I avoided Viva Hate and tried to avoid the most obvious stuff while still including my favorites and I came up with this:

Now my Heart is Full
Let the Right One Slip in
Interesting Drug
Come Back to Camden
Mute Witness
Such a Little Thing Makes Such a Big Difference
My Love Life
Tomorrow
I've Changed my Plea to Guilty
Jack the Ripper (studio)
There's A Place In Hell For Me and My Friends (KROQ Session)
The Last of the Famous International Playboys
I Like You
I Know it's Gonna Happen Someday
Trouble Love Me
The Loop (Live in Paris)
I'd Love To
Lost

Can this comp put a girl back on the path of wisdom?

Personally,I think it's a great compliation that would definitely put her on the right path.By the way, I really think you should add "Seasick, yet still docked" and "The more you ignore me, the closer I get" to the compliation. Good lack

Thanks for the input. The More you Ignore Me... was close to making it and sadly my copy of Your Arsenal has gone missing so I was forced to use the Best Of tracks to represent that album... But I think those two will do nicely.

here are my suggestions.

id keep these, but id use the live version of jack the ripper.

> Now my Heart is Full
> Interesting Drug
> Such a Little Thing Makes Such a Big Difference
> Jack the Ripper (id put the live version)
> There's A Place In Hell For Me and My Friends (KROQ Session)
> The Last of the Famous International Playboys
> I Like You
> I Know it's Gonna Happen Someday
> Trouble Love Me
> I'd Love To

id replace the deleted tracks with the following...

sister i'm a poet (studio)
you're the one for me following
the more you ignore me...
why don't you find out for yourself
speedway
the boy racer
alma matters
first of the gang to die

I can find no fault with any of your selections except for maybe Fatty. This girl might take that one to heart and put my eye out!

Oh dear what a coincidence that you sent that message yesterday about your friend.Due to the news bit about New Order and Moz,Today I had a discussion with my sister about the importance of The Smiths and their influence on the music world.I'm trying to convince her The Smiths were greater than Joy Division, and I need to make her an ultimate compilation which will prove my point. This compilation mustn't include any of their familiar songs(like in the Best Of's) only album tracks, and I'd be glad to have some suggestions, from the people on the message board, on which songs I should include

In terms of the less popular (or reproduced or familiar or whatever) songs, here a few I love dearly:

Well I Wonder
Rusholme Ruffians
Jeane (I love this one!)
Handsome Devil
Paint a Vulgar Picture
Pretty Girls Make Graves
Back to the Old House
What She Said
Stretch Out and Wait
Asleep
Unloveable
I Know it's Over

Let me know what you come up with! I think I'd like to do this for myself!

I see we have a similar taste! you've pointed out some of my favourites:

> Well I Wonder
> Rusholme Ruffians
> Handsome Devil
> Paint a Vulgar Picture
> Pretty Girls Make Graves
> What She Said
> Unloveable
> I Know it's Over

I don't know the song Jeane(yes the BLASPHEMY!) because it doesn't appear in any album only as a b-side, and in my area they don't sell singles at all..
Anyway, since I'm making the compilation for my sister and not for me the setlist will appear somewhat different! here it goes in no particular order:

Well I Wonder
What She Said
I Won't Share You
Pretty Girls Make Graves
I Know It's Over
This Night Has Opened My Eyes
Rusholme Ruffians
Girl Afraid
Rubber Ring
These Things Take Time
Back to the Old House
Still Ill
I Want the One I Can't Have
Unloveable
London
Suffer Little Children
You've Got Everything Now
Stretch Out and Wait
The Hand that Rocks the Cradle(not sure about this one)
A Rush and a push and the Land Is Ours

I'm not sure if this selection of songs will "grab" my sister's ear, but I do hope! she knows numerous songs of Morrissey/The Smiths and I think she prefers Morrissey solo more.
So, do you think my comp. will do the job?

Nicely done! I thought about Suffer Little Children too but thought it might be too specific and morbid for the unitiated...

If you want an mp3 of Jeane email me and I can send it to you!

Thank you yea, Suffer Little Children is a bit hard to "swallow" but maybe my sis could connect to the song, she has great taste!

That is so nice of you to offer me an mp3 file! I would email you, but I really don't know your email address. Also, since your "your arsenal" cd got lost somewhere, I can send you the songs you need on mp3
