View Full Version : Don't take Morrissey-solo for granted.

Have you all read the "About" section of this website? David Tseng, the owner and administrator of Morrissey-solo writes:
"I hope to keep this website going for as long as possible, but I am glad I have the freedom to end it whenever I want. I hope that all Morrissey fans, no matter how computer illiterate, will at least get a glimpse of these pages eventually."
I think probably every individual who frequents this website, at times, takes it and the outstanding job David does, horribly for granted. He doesn't earn any money for his efforts, and - as Suzanne would likely agree - at times he's shown very little gratitude.
I think every single person who's reading this now, should take the time to click on and read the "About" link on the site's front door. It really demystifies the nebulousness of the man who is responsible for this great little place. The discovery of this website is single-handedly responsible for rekindling my own interest in Morrissey today.
After I read the "About" page today (for the first time), I was suddenly overcome by the lucid realization that this site - one which in my opinion is FAR better than EVERY other artist-dedicated site I've seen on the net - is basically a non-professional creation kept alive out of the purest and sweetest of intentions. David runs this page, updates it, and does whatever else is necessary for it to exist, out of his bedroom for Pete's sake! This fantastic site, all out of his room!
Now imagine, doing all of this - for NOTHING in return mind you - then making a change on the website, only to be rudely berated by a sad, angry mob.
I resurrect this topic because I had a little e-mail exchange with David, and he is so sweet, and so beyond reproach. Some of you should really consider how unappreciated he must have felt upon reading some of those messages on the Janary 1st news section. God knows what he may have received in his private inbox. Go back and read those messages; pretend you're him.
Remember, this site has been around for a long time, and one day, it'll vanish. It's not run by a record label, or a management company you know. If David even decides that he's tired of Morrissey's music, why would he want to continue managing this site?
I know that most of us sincerely appreciate the work that David does, so... kisses, smiles, hats off, bows all around, cheers, and every other gesture of appreciation that lies beyond the tip of my tongue at the moment.

I fully agree with you, Cili. I wasn’t online when that “new message board” thing happened but I went back to that day and was amazed by the rudeness of some people commenting on the suggested format. They wouldn’t even say “Thank you” to David for all his hard work. This site is exemplarily maintained by David and he doesn’t even have one single ad on it when he could, just to pay for his trouble and pain. After all this must be one of the most frequently visited sites on the web. David is doing an amazing job, I mean, nothing escapes this site, and we as Morrissey fans literally rely on it. I have caught myself feeling let down when the newspage hasn’t been updated for 1-2 days; David, I apologise for that! I’d be extremely sad when this site eventually disappears but I will try to collect as much from it as possible because it is a real sanctuary of David’s and all the fans’ dedication to Moz. Thank you, David, keep up the amazing work for as long as you can. Please respect this guy!

You're right those emails about the new message board were horrible.
i didn't even notice a change in the message board, so it can't be that different.
For the record, i did send David a 'personal' email thanking him for
such a great site and wishing him a happy new year last week.

I completely agree with you Cili. Although this is not Moz's official website, I consider it to be. It is definitely created in a professional sense and I only visit this site for all my Moz info. I wish there were a way for David to get compensated monatarily, but I'm sure he's satisfied with all the joy he brings to all the Moz fans.
In closing I say bravo David! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. The majority of us deeply appreciate it.

Morrissey is the one who profits from this site, not the fans. Get it straight. If anyone should show any gratitude it should be Moz, but it will never happen because he didn't ask for this site and he doesn't like computer users.

I thought his company gave him free webspace so he could do this on company time.

I'm sure he appreciated the feedback. And I in return appreciate the alterations of the site. I don't take this site for granted at all, but if it suddenly went down it would be somewhat of a relief because it's not healthy to feed people's addictions.

I´m sure Morrissey appreciates this wonderful site, the same way he used to do with zines, no matter how computer illiterate he is. He´s known David for years and he knows David is a most reliable one.

I guess you are. I just found this site fairly recently.

Unbelievable. I can't believe you're so insolent and ungrateful. By the way, Morrissey has a computer. And I do agree, he should show a little gratitude as well; possibly more than this site's visitors.

I thought you read the "About" page, "like 3 years ago."

I'm glad you have enough concern about other people to feel relieved. What an absurd statement that was! If you afforded half as much attention to your own pathology, then perhaps you wouldn't be so unreasonably unfriendly. You know it's not that difficult to just be nice. If you can't reach the heights of "nice," then try just "considerate." Small steps.
> Why does he now?
He does it for you, and for me. I think that's very nice. How often are you very nice?
> You're such an ass-kiss.
Not very often.

I don't think making a legitimate point makes me insolent and ungrateful. This site was made for the fans, but I find it ironic that even though Morrissey pretends to boycott the internet he knows very well this site is his most profitable substitute to the music press.

Yeah and that's what I recall it saying.

I'm friendly, nice, generous, grateful, thoughtful, interesting, smart, wonderful, and it's a curse. What are you? An ass-kiss? I'd rather be me.

I actually agreed with the point you made, but that point wasn't what drove me to the conclusion that you're insolent and ungrateful ("unappreciative" would probably have been a better choice of words). You seem intelligent enough to understand though; I won't explain it. Unless you're a sociopath and additionally lack an understanding of the dynamics of human relationships, you should be able to figure out what I'm talking about.
I still don't understand how you can say Morrissey pretends to boycott the internet. He didn't try to hide his computer when the photo of his home was taken, and he even included a song which directly alludes to internet use on Maladjusted. I wouldn't be surprised if I found out that Morrissey spent a great deal of time online. Many celebrities do apparently; that's not a very big secret.
> Yeah and that's what I recall it saying.
I don't understand that response.

Those words usually have their intended meaning when they're used by others to describe you. Somehow, when you use them to describe yourself (and you weren't even modest about it) they take on their antitheticals. I know I could've given you the benefit of the doubt and assumed that you were playing with feigned exaggerated arrogance, but you actually seem like could mean it.
> What are you? An ass-kiss? I'd rather be me.
Just an arse?
> Too often for my own good.
Let's just let this go. The bottom line is, you don't like me, and I don't care. If we keep bickering, we'll sound juvenile. Here's a hug. Now, shoo. Or else...

I've been meaning to say that for awhile.
If Cili's not sprinkling her annoying posts with condescending little jabs at people then she's "casually" mentioning how she shops at Gucci. She's a snooty bore.

I agree. She talks Gucci, but I bet she shops at Kmart. Kmart chic can be "charming" if you know how to "accessorize". Just don't fake the funk, babe. My granny shops at Haband and she's the talk of the senior center. Her white Kmart heels do look fabulous, though(just cause they cover her bunions nicely).
