A nice little gig coming up for anyone in the London area on 7th December.

The Fall are playing at the Academy supported by John Cooper Clarke.

Here is also a nice little interview on the band done by Moz's good friend Michael Bracewell.

Your subject heading reminds me Johnny, there is a Mojo special on The Clash this month. CD given with it too.

Although I suppose you already knew this didn't you? Thought I post it anyway as I hear that Patrick McCann is getting into punk and I thought he may like to hear one of the bands from that era

You're joking.. he kept that quiet didn't he. I bet he's buying lots of stuff retrospectively and downloading some of those songs he's heard us talk about here.

I may have to tell him what it was like.

I'm not into The Fall but will definately be making the trip down there to see John Cooper Clarke, I've seen him a few times before but only doing poetry readings. Oh to hear the words of Beasley Street, Midnight Shift or Night people, spouted in that gruff Mancunian accent.

Thanks a bunch for this I will have to look into it a bit more.

Yes I've just looked up the info again and John Cooper Clarke is only playing with them in London, oh well I thought it was a bit too much to have the gig on my doorstep, London it is.

Yeah I should have made that clear. That's why I only included the London gig.

Londoners need these little perks. It makes up for being charged about £2.00 for a bag of chips

A cob is a Midlands term for what you may call a crusty roll. They're called summat weird like "oven bottom muffins" or "barm cakes" here in the strange North West.

Say someone was visiting said City.
Where would be the best place to get one of these delicacies, and afterwards, where would be a good place to go for someone's favorite beverage, and where would be a good place to jog off this calorie fest?

By the way...if it REALLY scares you, you can always ask me to be your personal guide.

ps. 'ned' is a VERY common word among us weegies ( glaswegians) and has been for centuries. So I'm told.

It's simply the equivalent of 'yob'. A numbnutted gang member who can't go anywhere or do anything by himself. You know the type. Every town on earth has them.

pps. that's a deep-fried Mars Bar you owe me.

Ah...the memories. I ran all the way home with THEE seminal punk album. I remember sweating as I queued (that's 'stood in line' to my north american readers) in the HMV megastore.
Aye.......Dookie...

happy days

haha this local lingo stuff is really quite fascinating I wonder if anyone has ever written an in depth book about this stuff, I really don't think I'd survive without one down in Cornwall, or the West Midlands for that matter.

or Brix. I wonder what happened to Brix ? The amazing thing about The Fall and Mr Smith is that the band were often absolutely 'totalled' before giving some great performances. A friend of mine was warming up the audience one night with some mates - they all literally fell out of the pub next door and onto the stage. The rest is musical history. Not too many great characters left these days.
