I am so jealous. I saw them about 2 weeks ago in Baltimore. They are phenomenal live.

Yes, good show. Saw them in Los Angeles last month and thought it sounded quite good. They still get the Joy Division comparisons everywhere, but I still think they sound a lot like shoegaze of the early 90's.....?

Well, they do have that sort of sound. I'm not sure if they're ripping them off, but if they are they'll easily get away with it as hardly anyone knows who The Chameleons are.
That would be something that'd really piss me off: being in a great band, but never get any recognition or sales, then have people rip off your stuff and totally get away with it.

Ooh, maybe I should check out this Interpol band. I LOVE The Chameleons. 'Swamp Thing' is one of my favorite songs. I don't believe I've heard any of Interpol's music though. Any download recommendations?

I'll list the songs off the album with the most obvious Chameleons influence when Peel finishes - just started. The very ace Ballboy in session.

Right, here are my thoughts on the Interpol songs that sound most like the Chameleons.

1. Obstacle 1
Bits of this sound heavily indebted to "Nostalgia". The middle 8 and the last 40 seconds, with the lead guitar especially.
2. NYC
The start - "View From A Hill"??
3. Obstacle 2
The whole song sounds like it's from "Script From A Bridge". Blatant!
4. Stella Was A Diver etc
Listen to what the song does at 1:42. Wow! The Chameleons!
5. The New
Around 4:22 it slips into either "Don't Fall" or "A Person Isn't Safe Anywhere These Days".

Guilty as charged.
