View Full Version : New poll: 3 Best female singers-songwriters...
Ears With Feet March 5, 2003, 09:09 AM I know i'm too new to dare to start a new poll... however, i'm curious what female singers-songwriters peoples here are listening... but let's exclude commercial singers like madonna and spears... i mean let's list women who are really original... musically and poetically... ok, maybe some would find madonna ray of light original too... so no restrictions... ok...
everybody's favorite?
MINE ARE: IN THAT ORDER
1.) Joni Mitchell
and
1.) Tori Amos
2.) Patti Smith
3.) Kristin Hersh
I know, I'm bad, but I can not to mention all 4 of those...
Roger Relevant March 5, 2003, 09:22 AM Whats unoriginal about Madonna? She's had a 20 year career in pop music. Thats pretty original on it's own. Indie-snobs suck dick.

i think ray of light was good. read my message above.
personally, what i dislike about madonna is her oversexed vamp woman image (sleep for success, she changed her lovers as gloves) and i also don't like her thin Betty Boop faux-little girl voice, but it is very personal distaste, and i'm not a snob. as of fellatio, i don't find this activity criminal. if you are sexist pig who adores madonna - you are an oxymoron. madonna's whole life is about making revenge on her strict catholic Detroit italian dad and you are not relevant here by being sexist!!! i'm just a girl with opinion, roger, oh how bad it is...

I can oly assume that so far only my friends in the USA / Canada have replied to this thread. Anyone with half an ear would have the amazing P.J Harvey on their list.I can really only think of Pattie Smith and Jonni Mitchell as rivals.
I may even have put in Polly Styrene from X-Ray Spex....then again.Even Siousxie deserves a mention.

was the ani di franco part a joke or just the j. lo? i don't get the ani di franco thing myself, but then, i don't like most chick rock (an opinion for which i used to get severely lambasted on this board).
