Fedorov confirms rumors: He and Anna were wed

Confirming a long-standing rumor in the sports world in general, *Sergei Fedorov of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and tennis star Anna Kournikova were indeed married, Fedorov told The Hockey News.

When asked about the rumors that he and Kournikova were once wed, Fedorov said, "They are true. We were married, albeit brief, and we are now divorced."

Fedorov, 33, told The Hockey News he no longer keeps in touch with the 21-year-old Kournikova, and that he wouldn't be dating anyone for a while.

The publication did not contact Kournikova to confirm Fedorov's claims.

Fedorov didn't play Monday night in the Red Wings' 3-2 victory at Columbus. Fedorov warmed up for several minutes, but went to the dressing room because of a sore back sustained Sunday night when he was rammed into a goalpost.

The nature of the Russian's relationship with the Russian tennis star, how his teammates felt about it and Kournikova's rumored relationship with NHL star Pavel Bure of the New York Rangers are among the topics Fedorov addressed in a wide-ranging interview in the March 14 issue of The Hockey News. The issue goes on sale today.

Fedorov was also candid about the break-up with his former agents, his future in Detroit and xenophobia in the NHL.

The potential unrestricted free agent said he fully expects to return to the Red Wings next season.

"It's not even an issue for me at this point," Fedorov said. "I'm confident that with my new representation from IMG that a deal to keep me in Detroit will be able to get worked out."

I had Russian room mates a few years back... they were in their 20's and all their girlfriends were always in there early-mid teens... the sick thing is that the girls' PARENTS were cool with it... they would drop them off at our apartment knowing full well they were going to staying the night... it is apparently common for Russians to date VERY young... totally illegal here in the States but hey whatever...

well things are different in europe. my friend was an exchange student in germany. the family's oldest son was 23 or something and his girlfriend was 13. eew! it's like, get yourself a real woman, you perv!

i had russian jewish girls in my hi school and their upbringing was super strict. they were from homel, white part of russia - whiterussia. maybe peoples in urban centers like moscow are libertines the same way as new yorkers are fine with sleeping with their korean adopted daughters... :-) but those two unfortunates lived almost under law of shariat, i mean they were forbidden to stay in school extra or go to any parties, just go to classes... they even studied for nurses later in life... heh, women's job... i bet their parents married them "by covenant" on kin's bridegrooms... on the other hand in LA russian girls are either extremily adventurous or sluts, up to one's definition... but in LA peoples are generally go bananas, i feel i'm from 19 century sometimes... so it is a question: nurture versus nature.

Maybe it is an L.A. thing- but down South they are known for dating immediate family- with the girls as young as junior high... but yeah it was kind of creepy having these kids around my room mates...
