View Full Version : I Just Don't Find Moz all that Depressing....

Harsh Truth

and I'm sick of people who really know nothing about him commenting on his depressive nature, such as on that "I Love the 80's" show on VH1. Very few songs, if any, actually have a continual theme of "I hate life" yet he is painted with that brush constantly. It's just so silly! Even Morrissey's more meloncholy songs always seem to have a glimmer of hope mixed in with the sorrow.

If anything, I would describe Morrissey's music as being sung from a realistic point of view. Moreover, many songs border on whimsical, playful, and humorous.

Also, look at his live shows, particularly in recent years...... he is constantly cracking jokes on stage!

Please comment.

I agree. I get from Moz's music the humorous side. I also am a very realistic person and I understand despair. - what's so great about his music is the ablitlity it has to soothe you during those down times but also has this amazing ability to bring you back up again.

Very few of Morrissey's songs are depressing. Many people don't have the intelligence to realise this. For instance Heaven Knows I'm Mierable Now is a pisstake, and many people cite this as "proof" of his "miserableness". Swines. Morrissey is the cleverest, most humorous musician in history, fact.

Of course you're right, harsh truth. But there's no need to post that here. Everyone on this board feels the same way. That's why we're here. I'm not so sure the world deserves us. Cheers.

Where should I post it, then? :-)

I wish I knew. You could try the sites of every other so-called artist on earth, but they won't listen. Because they DON'T listen. That's why they're not here.

Morrissey said in a recent interview, i think it was with that irish guy, something like 'when people say morrissey's miserable and doesnt have a sense of humor what they mean is he doesnt have our sense of humor and i just think sod them'

I saw something on tv recently where he said 'music press say we're miserable but that to me is just lazy journalism'

Finally, a topic worth commenting on, thank you!

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw that show, it's seems the general public that thinks they know Morrissey/Smith's music is going off songs like 'Please let me get what I want' and 'Everyday is like Sunday', and they only take those songs at face value. I'd take a so called 'depressing' or 'melancholy' song with substance over any fluff Janet Jackson song any day! By dismissing his music with such lame generalities, they are missing out on the more meaningful messages behind some of the truly great songs of Morrissey.

I don't think a station, who had a show called "Jailhouse rock", featuring music by convicted murderers and rapists for Holiday entertainment has any credibility.
