He was one of the characters from Graham Greene's "Brighton Rock"...along with Dallow,Spicer etc.

No, I don't think so. I too had assumed that until this morning when I was reading up about Anthony Newley, and read that Patric Doonan starred in the film 'Cockcleshell Heroes' (sample used in 'Maladjusted') & also the Man in the White Suit. Apparently he ended his own life aged 33.
