I REALLY want, 'Songs That Changed Yer Life' but that one's got a strange release date with Amazon as well.

because

a. It's badly written
b. It smacks of a tawdry cash in
c. It's full of errors
d. It tells you absolutely nothing about Morrissey you dont know already

Avoid Landscapes of the Mind as well

It's actually called 'The Smiths - Songs that SAVED Your Life'. Maybe you're looking for the wrong book?
I'm in Canada and have that preordered at Chapters but it still hasn't come in yet. They said it would be printed by the end of December. They're only getting two copies in! Idiots.

Your best bet is to go on Ebay. There's always books for sale there. Just don't pay more than you should. Hold out for some cheap ones.

I don't know if there are any around, but it's a lovely book to have. The Kevin Cummings book won't be very exciting either judging from the exhibition.

Songs That Saved Your Life only came out in UK early Dec so may only reach US/Canada about now? At least it's on Amazon.com, and it is definitely worth getting. The Severed Alliance is a kind-of must-have even though it's a bit dodgy in its outlook and yes, you should definitely get Jo Slee's Peepholism which is gorgeous.

Morrissey's Manchester is OK if you only think of it as a trivial/light read. The Cummins book is disappointing too. Landscapes Of The Mind is rubbish. And so is Mick Middles.

You should also get Willy Russell's fictional novel, The Wrong Boy.

Ah yes -- I almost forgot about that book. Moz referrences left and right. Fabulous read!

I agree, Songs That Saved... is definitely worth buying. I've actually had the unedited manuscript for months now so I've been able to read a lot of it. That's why I'm not too impatient when it comes to buying the book.
It has all the info you could possibly ask for on every single Smiths song. From concert performances to television appearances. Great stuff!
For those of you in the UK who have the book already -- does the book include any pictures at all?

Name the errors.
with the exception of saying Rank was recorded at Brixton, name me the other errors?
i dont think it was badly written, sure mick middles bit was weird but so what?
i also dont think it was cashing in. why should it be or surely any book ever written is cashing in on something?

It has 8 pages of pictures - nothing that you haven't seen before though.

I've had that book on a search list for five months now and recently extended it until June '03

Seriously? Where do you live?

When I first heard about this book about a year and a half ago -- I called up Chapters to see if they had it and they did! It was instock. I picked it up that day. Hmm...maybe try www.chapters.ca ? Maybe you can get it from there as well.

Shameful promotion here, but I'll mention it only once. I have 'The Songs that Saved your Life' for auction on eBay. Starting price is what I paid for it.

- The Smiths pics in STSYL are standard shots (nice one with Moz in bush mind) but the best pics are the stills from the kitchen sink films, some of which I haven't seen before personally (great one of Finney and Field in Saturday Night Sunday Morning)

Thanks hon. I'll keep stalking Chapter's for a couple more weeks and if they don't come through I may just take you up on that. *hugs*

PS Holy crap! The post system sucks ass! I mailed that too you ages ago. Same thing happened when I sent a Tenacious D disc to Sheffield. Took FOREVER! Weird. When I send to Durham city it's there in 5 - 7 days.

PSS LOVE the new haircut! That's a recent pic in your profile right?

Amazon are idiots because they say not yet published but scroll down and they confirm that it came out Dec 2002. As it's a UK publisher and already out in England then I asume they will just be importing UK stock anyway? Also Amazon reckon The Smiths are "glam-rock"! Eh???

Try ordering from Amazon UK maybe, they have it.

for 4 pounds you could own a copy of Viv Nicholson's 'Spend, Spend,Spend' [co-authored by 'Stepehn Smith']. I enjoyed reading it and picking out what Morrissey used.
