View Full Version : Reardon Street, Wapping, visitors
Tingle December 16, 2002, 01:16 AM Our office Christmas party was at a pub in Wapping last Friday. It was a pretty run-of-the-mill do, but the best of it was escaping from it and wandering round to Reardon Street to see where those Jurgen Teller photos were taken around the time of 'Bona Drag'. It was funny to see much Moz-related grafitti where the Reardon Street sign used to be, so funny that I had to note some of it down:
"Hi Moz" from Lisa & Jay 25-7-94
"But Only With You" Emily Lumsden 7/12/98
"Unloveable" Tina
Henzik ....2002
16.09.01 (can't make name out), Korea
"I'm writing this to say in a gentle way, Thank you!" (anon) 06-10-02
OK it doesn't mean much, but does anyone recognise themselves? Curious to see that people have been visiting all through the years, even this year, like me. Weird to think that some people think they can get a message to Morrissey by writing it here. It seems that Tower Hamlets council have given up replacing the street name plates. They know when to give up!
Anin December 16, 2002, 01:38 AM Take it from me, I live in Whitechapel and Tower Hamlets council has given up on most things. (And no, I didn't move here because of Jack The Ripper). By the way, if anyone cares, The Grave Maurice on the Sunny cover is my local and it's a shithole!
Girl Drowning December 16, 2002, 09:02 AM Aww Tingle you didn't see mine! It says 'I know it's gonna happen someday' with a date. Oh well. I have some photos of the sign, I'll try and get someone to scan it in. I highly recommend doing the Moz Tour, it's really special.

luckystart December 21, 2002, 03:45 PM double diamond made places like that special, for many people, so 'shithole' does not seem to be a very fair comment at all !!

Lucky December 21, 2002, 05:24 PM well I have to say a few words in the defence of Whitechapel and Tower Hamlets in general...
I work in Whitechapel and I also live in the borough and I love it. Sure, it may be a little rough around the edges but the dossers are always friendly and "The Queen is Dead" and "Hand in Glove" are on the jukebox in the (migraine inducing) Urban Bar...
another Lucky x
