LAST MONTH I BOUGHT THE UNCUT-SPECIAL ABOUT THE MANIC STREET PREACHERS.
FANTASTIC. HAS THERE BEEN A SPECIAL ABOUT MORRISSEY OR SMITHS IN THIS FORM
LATELY. GREAT CONCEPT.THE LAST TWO MANICS-ALBUMS REDUCED MY INTEREST IN THE
BAND BUT THE DISAPEARING OF RICHEY EDWARDS AND THE DARKNESS OF THEIR ALBUM
"THE HOLY BIBLE" IS CLASSIC. AND WHAT ABOUT THEIR SINGLES "MOTORCYCLE EMPTINESS"
AND "DESIGN FOR LIFE"

Sorry but last month what you actually bought was the NME Originals special on The Manics, not Uncut. There hasn't been an NME originals on Smiths YET but they are an obvious candidate - however that mag's group editor is one Mr Steve Sutherland who is one of the biggest Smiths-haters still working in the music press.

Uncut had a feature on Strangeways a few issues back as a preview of Simon Goddard's book and in 1998 they had a cover story on Morrissey (not an interview, just listing all the people he's pissed off). They haven't done a cover on the Smiths alone yet either.

Steve Sutherland is a wanker. He is the reason I stopped buying NME and his Morrissey hating (not just saying this, I KNOW this) had little to do with his music. It was official NME policy a few years ago (not sure about now) that they do not have a 'working relationship' with Morrissey. Regardless of what he releases.

Is he still the editor of NME or is NME Originals a different thing?? Its just that the NME has had some good things to say about Mozzer recently and Sutherland always seemed so strong in his hatred for them that it is difficult to imagine him changing his tune that quickly...

I was waiting in the barber's shop the other day and I didn't get around to realising that they had November's GQ (UK edn) until about 30 sec before it was my turn. The feature on Morrissey went on for pages and page and pages and appeared to have pictures I hadn't seen before (eg Morrissey with bicycles). So I guess I'll have to go back to the barbers and offer to buy it off him 'cos the magazine isn't available in the shops any longer. You've read it, so does it really have anything that hasn't already been printed before?
