View Full Version : "Skinny" lens used?
GenderNectar October 25, 2002, 07:15 PM On the cover of the Introducing Morrissey video, Moz looks really frail and thinner than usual. Do you think he had the "Paula Abdul" treatment and the use of skinny lenses were brought in? How long ago was that pic taken? Does anyone know?

I know the photographer is Rankin. Think they were shot in 1995 for Southpaw (he has "Southpaw Grammar" "etched" into his right forearm). I believe they were in the booklet for the UK 12" version and subsequently used for Introducing Morrissey and the Rhino Best of.
Cheers,
Jamie
Lifeguard Sleeping October 25, 2002, 08:43 PM I never liked that picture; he looks like David Johansen.

Yes, I agree, I don't really like any of Rankin's Morrissey photos that I've seen (e.g. the Maladjusted ones - are there others ? (apart from the SG ones we've just discussed)) - I think they're all unflattering without any compensating interest/quirkiness. I do like many of Rankin's photos of other subjects - e.g. some of the Bjork ones in his online portfolio and that Richard Ashcroft one that was in that recent-ish Q 'Top 100 Rock Photographs'.
That'd be an interesting Morrissey-solo poll question, IMHO - what photographer has best captured Morrissey ?
dneuer October 26, 2002, 12:33 AM Linder is tops but I also like the few shots I saw that Anton Corbijn (sp?) did. He did some great work of Adam Ant around the time Boz was playing with him. Excellent stuff.

I laughed at first (moz in bondage gear? Moz wriggling around with Lydia Lunch?) but you might be on to something. I got into Kern through his stuff with Lydia, Sonic Youth, and Foetus. Kern has some unique and powerful work. I don't know if they would work together or not; but it'd be cool.
The website is www.richardkern.com (duh) and is not safe for those at work or easily offended.
