I have a couple of questions.One is why did Rough Trade decide to rerelease William it was .... in 1988?And why is there an alternate back slv. to the That Joke is'nt Funny ...12".Any reply would be appreciated.

I don't really know, but the William rerelease could have something to do with image ownership issues. The original sleeve of the young man sitting on the bed I think was withdrawn when the owner of the pic showed up, presumably demanding cash. So, if you're talking about a new sleeve, it could be a replacement, if you're talking about the same picture, maybe that's when the issue was settled.

These types of questions are better addressed to the boffins over at the Marketplace!

William was reissued because of the sleeve thing, plus the b-sides were swapped over. How soon got put on 7" which was weird (I think it played at 33rpm, might be wrong?) and Please on the 12". It was just Rough Trade cashing in after the split, like all those CD singles they did (Barbarism, Headmaster) - they knew that by a new sleeve the completist hardcore would buy it. Much as I like Billie Whitelaw though, the original sleeve from the speaker advert was much much better.
