View Full Version : This forum is an old cardigan! Message for DavidT
-- October 15, 2002, 01:03 PM Why does this forum has to be so old-fashioned? Why do I have to click everytime to read 1 single message? Loading takes forever. I really wish this forum would be like the one on www.thedivinecomedy.com, you just scroll down and read all the messages.

I tried that format for a while a couple years ago. People didn't like it and preferred this one.
:P October 15, 2002, 03:08 PM I just had a look at the Divine Comedy one, and I like this one better.
Did you notice how short all the messages there are? So it's easy to fit a million to a page, but with the length of many of the messages here (us Moz fans being so much more intelligent and literary than DC's!), I think it would be a pain in the arse to have all the comments load onto one page.

I'd have to agree. I like that format a lot better. It's much easier to read than this one. Maybe I'm just not use to it yet.
-- October 15, 2002, 03:28 PM Your answer must be the most unlogical statement I ever read:
You can also find very long messages on the DC-Board, maybe you didn't find them at the moment because there's not much happening. Also, I can assure you if there are long messages it still never takes as long to load as this forum, where I am waiting for one (!) message!!
The short messages you complain about are exactly the reason I complain about THIS system. Often I am waiting for 1 message to load just to find a short sentence, or even just a word.
>(us Moz fans being so much more intelligent and literary than DC's!
Thanks for showing how I have to rate your comment overall.
Thanks, DavidT for your answer, but although at the moment it seems 2:1 against me, it's very hard for me to believe that this should be true. What about a really essential poll for once?

Martin October 15, 2002, 04:01 PM it would be nice to see a change of format for this message board.... you are quite right when you say its annoying to have to click everytime to read every message.
I can vaguely remember when david t tried the new format on here and the protests from everyone about how bad it was. To be honest i actually liked it and think with time everyone would have got use to it.
This belle and sebastian forum ( www.buro9.com/forum/ )i think is well designed and i like the idea that you have to register before posting, this would stop people posting abuse under different nicknames. It also lets you view who is currently browsing the boards which is also a nice feature.
In defence of the current board apart from the constant clicking it is only a small part of what is Morrissey solo and lets face it without it life wouldnt be the same.

It would also stop anonymous people from making interesting, informative, amusing, or otherwise constructive comments. (Which they do from time to time!) I think it would make things quite dull. (Especially for me, as I wouldn't be able to post any more.)
Since you have to click on a message to read it, it's easy enough to avoid posts by people you don't know or aren't interested in.
little lamb October 15, 2002, 05:41 PM did u read what he wrote? He TRIED that loong time ago.. we tried it , we didn't like it ,it was boring and predictable as the rest of all the forums, you can ask all the oldies in here that have been here for more than 2 years
I think this is unique and I don't mind at all clicking to all the messages, about IP adresses , he tried it too ..
David keep this place like it is , that's what it makes it special and different , people can speak!! remember how much we told you how we loved the old format?
--- October 15, 2002, 06:01 PM and make it possible also anonymous people can post, then everyone is pleased.

I liked the divinecomedy board but... I thought it was a little confusing when one chose to respond to a specific comment... my vote (if you will indulge me) is to leave well enough alone!(and get DSL if you're so impatient!)

I cringe whenever I try to read some other type of board. Besides, who wants to read all the messages when there are some greasy improper nitwits on the board?

It isn't. If you click on the little arrow the theme you want to coment is quoted in your answer.
>my vote (if you will indulge me) is to leave well enough alone!(and get >DSL if you're so impatient!)
I have DSL but that won't make me click all the messages. I suggest you keep your board. It can't compete with The Divine Comedy anyway.

Really? It's not slow like that at all on my laptop. I have pretty average, basic euipemet and shit. The forum works fine. I like the way the threads are and so forth. I still maintain that registering people would be a good idea, but I see there's no support for that, so demcoracy wins.
I don't know why it's so slow, but did you try going into the settings thingie and reducing how many days worth of messages are displayed?
Edgar October 16, 2002, 09:27 AM This forum is technically rubbish, that's right. The complete website needs an redesign. But I'm not in the position to critisise things like this. The content is at it's best and the postings of this forum are unbeatable.

Thanks... sounds like you have "issues"... I doubt you'll find help here...
