what the fuck is up with all this spencer AIDS rumour? can someone please clear this up once and for all?

if it's a joke (as i'm almost certain it is), it's not a very funny one.

This started with a review in a French magazine last week. Someone said that the article stated that Spencer had died of AIDS and that Moz had dedicated a song to him that night at the gig. People then tried using web tools to translate the article, but translating tools don't have the knowledge to translate 'meaning'. SO, all we need is a a bilingual person (French/English) to provide a meaningful translation as a starting point.

well i will try to translate it if you'd be so kind as to provide a link to the article. (i read the two most recent articles posted on the main page that are in french - no mention of spencer or AIDS.)

quant à Spencer Corbin, il est mort du SIDA et une chanson lui est dédiée

"as for spencer cobrin, he died of AIDS and a song was dedicated to him"

hey france, is that a retraction i smell? here's hoping for a libel lawsuit.

Weird, isn't it. I'm sure it's not true though, we'd have heard about it if he'd died. I wonder what Morrissey said that gave the journalist that impression? You'd think they'd have checked it out before they printed it, what shoddy journalism.

well i have tried looking up news of his death online. no obituaries, no nothing.

morrissey probably dedicated a song to someone else and since he doesnt speak french, the journalist probably misheard him.

Oh, that's so stupid. I've ignored those threads completely. If Spencer had died, David woild've put it on the news section of this site! Pay no attention to ANYTHING which only appears in the FRENCH media! They also said it was the American government who blew up the Twin Towers with remote controlled planes! They've got some drugged out journalists in that country, let me tell ya.

well, i sympathise with french politics, although i stop short of believing that about the remote controlled planes! but yes, french entertainment press seems a bit unreliable.

you know, i find it funny how people always insinuate that spencer is gay. i thought he was married (or divorced or summit) - i thought he bloody had kids. that means nothing of course, but just the same these rumours are a bit irritating.

wow, if there is a guillotine still working somewhere we have a very good reason to use it now. Poor, por boy. He hadn't even heard about "Myth is Morrissey", the wonderful french fan-club and its wonderful paper. That wouldn't be such a problem (just one more so stupid person) if there wasn't such a lot of people JUST LIKE HIM in this country, feeling themselves so braves and importants because they are spitting on everything on their ways. And that's not only journalists (this wasn't a "real" published review) but it's the attitude you have to take to be really coool in here. Bitter. Everytime. I'm soooo tired of it. When, when am I to go? Please help me.

And he dares talk about Oscar Wilde's grave.
Pourquoi tant de haine? Pourquoi aussi peu de classe?
Pourquoi faire semblant de savoir écrire, juste pour dire ça???

I think if anything tragic had happened to the guy, Morrissey would've said something in all these interviews etc.
