say what you want about thr lads, but the version of "Meat Is Murder" that the boys have been playing as of late is FAR superior to the studio recording of M.I.M., or Smiths-era live versions.

That song sucks no matter who or how they play it.

It's an absolute waste of time that Morrisey plays that ridiculous song at the concerts. Why not play a Smiths song that people ACTUALLY like and listen to on their tapes/cds? But noooooo, it has to be Meat Is Murder (probably the most skipped over song on any Smiths cd). I guess it would be too good for us, in Morrisey's opinion, if we were to just pretend that the song doesn't exist.

I agree 100%. Why not play "Panic" or "The Queen is Dead" or "Stop Me...." or "Bigmouth..." or "Sheila Take A Bow" or "This Charming Man" or "What Difference Does It Make" or even "How Soon Is Now."

Meat is Murder is a terrible song, and a waste of 4 minutes of concert time.

you guys are totally missing the point. yeah, meat is murder isn't the best smiths song (by a longshot), but morrissey has a message. he wants to prevent the suffering of sentient beings, which i think is very noble. i think he is aware that people usually stop their walkmen right after barbarism begins at home ends, but he doesnt care. the song clearly means a lot to him, clumsy lyrics and plodding music or not.

p.s. golden lights is worse than meat is murder. (and yes, i am aware that he didnt write it. that doesnt change the fact that he was fond enough of it to cover it!)

I agree. Meat is Murder is overplayed. How bout pulling out a rarity? "Death of a Disco Dancer"? And played on the last 2 tours? Way too much. It's gearing up to be the next "Boy Racer". His shows are so predictably dull.

I'll confess to loving the live version of the track as well. It comes off really well live in my opinion with lots of emotion. I've always liked the studio version as well, though.

"Meat Is Murder" IS one of the greater Smiths tracks. You can't compare the beautifully distinct sound, to any other. I'm sure those who complain, are those who have "This Charming Man" on repeat. Pathetic. MiM is powerful, and it's GOOD. Play it Morrissey, play it.

sure, there are catchier & more upbeat Smiths tracks, but "Meat Is Murder" is more than just any song... it's an example of powerful propagandist art... a truly landmark piece of work. it has had a tremendously positive effect on so many people over the last two decades. (converting every other Smith to vegeterianism, no less)

the issue that the song raises is an important one, and i think it's beautiful that Morrissey is transmitting his message to concert goers in such a powerful way, through voice, poetry & song.

I think GOLDEN LIGHTS is great! I realized how good it was when I danced around my bedroom to it while on acid back in the day.

urgh! one of my close friends loves this song as well. it's okay, but it still annoys me. i much prefer his other sixties girlsinger cover "work is a four letter word." i mean, cilla black was loads cooler than fucking twinkle.

Are you mad... 'Most skipped'? That accolade goes to Golden Lights.. surely.. Meat IS Murder is great.. atmospheric.. and although I'm not a veggie, it paints a vulgar picture for us meat eaters quite nicely.

I agree, it's a great version on this tour for sure. erotic even in performance terms. But does it top the Smiths?? well, can't have that, you had to be there for that experience.

I agree that it's a great version on this tour. A fantstic resurrection of a classic that I, for one, would be sad never to hear again. It's an erotic moment in the set that lets Moz writhe in self masturbatory indulgence (almost, you know what I mean)!! And it's a prized moment because it's only song in the set to let the performance spring to sexual 'life' for 4 minutes in such a seductive way...

But does it top the Smiths?? Well, sorry, I really can't have that, you had to be there for that experience seeing the Smiths perform it the original time. Now atht was so f*cking special. So, sorry to indulge in my memories.. you'd better Listen to it again!

Good point well made though. Respect for that at least!

Oh my goodness!

I guess I am mad. Who cares about what he has to say? If he's so interested in pushing his political agenda on us, then he should produce a periodical of his views or something.

Heck, Rage Against The Machine has politics, that I totally disagree with, thorougout all of their songs, but they are freakin awesome songs. Meat Is Murder, on the other hand, is bbooooooooooorrrrriiiiiinnnngggg. And, it just makes me want to go out and eat more meat because he's trying to tell me what I can and can't eat. It's not "murder" in my mouth, it's a f*ckin 6 dollar Burger!

By the way, Golden Lights rules! Especially over Meat is Murder.
