This album is surely underrated. Ok the production may be a tad flat, but the songs have a power and urgency lacking from later albums. The lyrics are unpolished and rawer - in a good way esp 'Miserable Lie'. Great.

AHHHH! Smiths! Finally! I miss them! They were so fresh and new! Brilliant songwriting. And my opinion is that the first album may have had the most pure power, but Meat is Murder was more mature. Production was in their hands. They'd grown fast. The Queen is Dead had the Best of all Worlds. They were in the drivingseat and felt very secure. Alas but shite like that happens to brilliant bands, after that album they went down...
