View Full Version : Morrissey Fans On the Job

Lawyer, Liar

What do Morrissey fans do for a living? For those of us who are old enough to have "real" careers, what are they and why? Has Morrissey/The Smiths music influenced your profession at all? For those who are younger, what do you want to be when you grow up?

I'm currently a paralegal and will be in law school next fall. I've always wanted to argue for a living. Morrissey has not insprired my direct path in law, however, he's influenced me to become somebody. Morrissey's music has helped me see that you can't just sit around and wait for something good to happen to you, it takes guts and strengh. It takes hardwork.

Although in Sorrow Will Come in the End, Morrissey expressed his anger towards attorneys, I'm sure he'd approve of me doing something good with my life instead of sitting around on my ass.

Anyone else?

I guess you might say Moz has inspired me to somehow "want" to be part the music biz. Just currently finishing high school myself, I am starting to take classes to help me start in the right direction. Ever since junior high I've had this fasination to become a music producer. Being part of the PSO "Painfully Shy Organization" hehe! I can see myself taking part behind the scenes rather than taking a chance in trying to become a "star". If things don't work out in music production, I have all the time in the world left to explore my other interest. But I doubt I will ever loose interest in music!

Well I'm independently wealthy, so I took Mozzer's advice and decided not to bother working. It's bloody brilliant.

i remember that path once.

i saw the show Mystery Science Theater 3000 and decided that a life in television was for me. I thought i would die as a pencil pusher.

well, several years later, after years of study, and trying to ingratiate myself....i'm a pencil pusher.

the end.

it doesn't really matter in the end. anything we do on this earth is to simply kill time, and whatever value we put on something is within our own minds. The average lifespan of a career in the entertainment field is almost nil. People like Moz who can last about 20 years is such a small handful that it should be regarded as a freak of nature than a given that it happens, and its worse today because almost everyone who had a single on the radio 5 years ago is working again at the Taco Bell. You know that its sad when bands like Soul Asylum and the Gin Blossoms are having to team up together in an early to mid nineties music revival and go on tour together.

In the end, you'd still have to find something else to do. You're still pressed to find love or start a family or go on a vacation to Italy or go grocery shopping.

Because when you think about it, does Moz's life sound that enjoyable? Imagine yourself wanting to go out to something touristy and getting mobbed or knowing that people are staring at you to see what you're doing all the time, or going out and shopping for a car and having to have someone there to hand out your autographs so you can have some privacy, and perpetually trying to figure out how to step around someone who has been standing in your yard for hours and whether or not they are there on friendly business or if they want to cause harm, or having to read as everyone makes tacky comments about who you're dating and what you look like on the internet. And if you do get tired of what you're doing, you can't just go into something else. People laugh. You're basically stuck there for the rest of your life.

Well I'm an Actor with a Day Job...

I have the coolest situation- ussually the question in this town (L.A.) is: "Oh, you're an Actor? What RESTAURANT are you WAITING TABLES at?"

And yes I've done that... but now I've got a great gig: an office job that let's me bail anytime I have an audition or get a job on commercial/film/T.V. etc... for instamce, today I had the day off from work to go shoot a commercial. I played a HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT in a spot for the Partnership For A Drug Free America... I am 33 years old. And yes, I have even experimented with drugs. And I hadn't sat in a high school classroom since 1987... and everyone there said I LOOKED THE PART... even funnier: we were PASSING NOTES during the whole shoot!!

LOL!

I entertained the cute girl in front of me by writing Morrissey lyrics that were composed by Moz years before she was even born- and when I was about her age... GAWD the thing about these young actresses is all they want to do is flirt and use me for sex- they never appreciate my mind...

(ha ha ha)

The "star" of the commercial gets a BLOODY NOSE in the middle of class and everyone starts staring at her- the result of her COKE ADDICTION...

Life is good.

Jobs..
Where would I be today if I had stuck with IRS in UK? or shifting about
in sterile hospital corridors as a 'flesh remover'?
I will Sing my life.. or perhaps (half life) I think I will oneday retire
in a Corona Beer factory in Mexico, with my Irmanos espanolos!
But than again...perhaps not.
