View Full Version : Boz Boorer Guest DJ's "Underground" in West Hollywood (Pic and Ultra-Brief Interview)

Some Totally Random Moz Fan
July 13, 2002, 09:11 AM
Well hey what a great couple of Fridays I have had: last week meeting former Morrissey songwriting partner/guitarist Johnny Marr and tonight it was meeting current Morrissey songwriting partner/guitarist Boz Boorer. Next week I'll probably run into Alain Whyte ordering a Salad Shaker at McDonald's in Culver City...

I arrived at the club shortly before the Mod mob. I was able to get a few minutes to chat and ask a couple questions fellow Moz fans would like to know:

Do you have a recording contract? It's been rumoured you do.
"At first there was some substance to it- but it's dwindled down quite a bit."

When do you plan on recording?
"Now would be a good time to do it- well, right after the tour- we'll be tight and ready..."

The place was waaaaay over capacity and there were people all around him the rest of the night so I'm glad I caught him when I did. He mixed a GREAT set with plenty of BritPop and even a few Smiths/Moz songs "Barbarism Begins At Home" and "Sister I'm A Poet" - interesting choices in that he doesn't appear on either track. Very cool to hear that he really likes the music made before his arrival to the band.

Also got to meet up with Dave Tseng and a few other Morrissey-Solo.Com'ers ... Moz Angeles ROCKS!

best,

Jay

why don't you go post this with the Amazon/Sanctuary news item to make everyone who pre-ordered the imaginary album cry

thats why

So Boz words only confirm the current rumors: something MAY come out of the whole Sanctuary affair and the tour will be used to warm up the group for the studio. They don't seem very eager to get the deal and record the album, do they? I have this theory that Morrissey is afraid of the tremendous amount of expectation the new songs have been generating.
Excelent post again, Jay!

So I guessed correctly: the deal is sinking but not dead.

Also, Alain doesn't eat ate McDonalds. You're more likely to find him munching on chocolates at Lady Godiva.

no, what i don't understand is that they are heading off to the studio after the tour, as said by alain and as said by boz, which, i know in the world of moz that could change 8 times, but obviously they are thinking there is some reason to go into the studio because you would think there would be a label making it worth their while.

i think he said that on his radio interview a few months ago and somewhere else (the morrisseytour.com interview i think). October seems to be sticking in my mind as a date, but don't mind me because i sometimes run stories together.

i could be way off base, but i think in general after a tour -- or at least a short tour musicians have just the right amount of chemistry and energy to record an album. i read on some interview with spencer cobrin that after one of the tours (boxers?) his drumming on Southpaw took a whole different form -- that he had lots of energy from just having finished the tour.

yeah, but he's not going to be on this album, is he? :^P

still doesn't explain that why, after 5 years of looking, they are going into the studio to record an album with enough confidence that it will subsequently see the light of day.
