View Full Version : New Order Lancashire Cricket Ground
Punchdrunk1975 July 8, 2002, 04:45 PM Is anyone going to this gig????
New Order will be playing 6-7 Joy Division songs I am led to believe.
Should be a great gig.
greasetea July 8, 2002, 04:50 PM The more important question is that Bernard and crew have been playing that crap Kylie song as a "tribute" to her Blue Monday mix and will they do it agian? The answer is hopefully.
Now I concur that the Joy Division songs are enough to drag even the most skeptical Order fan but you have got to see their cover of that crap song..it's two testicles' hilarious.
Hooky even sashays all over the stage in N-Sync fashion during it!
Punchdrunk1975 July 8, 2002, 04:57 PM My mate is doing an interview with Hookey tommorow over the telephone.
He is the biggest New Order fan I have ever met and he is seriously BRICKING himself.
He will shit himself even more when I call him tommorow at 8am in my best manc accent to wind him up "ariate MATE its Hookeeeee ere matee" =0)
"I am not naturally evil"

They've been playing 5-6 songs from a list of Transmission/Ceremony/She's Lost Control/LWTUA/Digital/Atmosphere according to the setlists I've seen from Finsbury, Roskilde and Hurricance/Southside (Germany) on the neworderonline website.
Shaun Goater July 9, 2002, 08:36 AM I shall be there. (It's the ONLY venue called Old Trafford worth visiting!!!)
Also looking forward to Echo and the Bunnymen who have replaced Shaun Ryder.
The Goat.
Punchdrunk1975 July 9, 2002, 04:50 PM FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED THE GOAT!!!!!!
My mate had a good laugh with Hookey today on the phone. He said he talked frankly about Joy Division,Ian Curtis,New Order, new album etc etc and is friendship with Barney saying they are like the Gallaghers when they get together.
Some of the stuff Hookey said My mate could not print like New Order smashing up a guesthouse on the Hagley Rd in Birmingham early 80's and the landlady shouting "Your bands shit and you'll never play brum again"
He also said him and Barney would go on the pull in The Tower Ballroom in Birmingham when ever they were in town which is a "Grab a grannie place".Hookey cracked up when he found out it STILL IS and has been since the 1950s.
My mate joked with Hookey that if he dedicated a song to him he would give him £50 80)...Hookey said he would see what he could do.
Shall be a great gig.I shall be there round 2pm ish.
I'm driving so i wont be getting mad pissed unless I stop over.Where would be a decent place to go after the gig to get hammered??????????????????

Vauxhall Driver July 9, 2002, 05:22 PM On Channel 4's cricket coverage as we watched the (then) Mighty Yorkshire beat Wanky Lancashire.
How drunk we looked on TV.

A couple of years ago, I went over to Headingley to meet my Lancastrian in exile mate Rick, who works in Leeds. Along with some bloke from Southport, we formed a trio of Lancashire Lads who cheered on our county against Yorkshire, in a night match in the league. To add some balance, a Leeds chap from the pub came with us. The game was shown by Sky, and according to the Yorkshire lad's missus, we were shown a couple of times! This probably had something to do with me being very drunk and holding up the "4" sign every 2 minutes... Blush. I fell over on the way to the toilet as well, and cut my hand. Ow.

Banging em' Dave July 10, 2002, 09:47 AM There is no better way to spend a summer afternoon than getting pissed at the cricket while the rest of the world is stuck at work.
I've been to Old Trafford to watch the tykes twice and the summer of 99' trip was an absolute belter: glorious weather, lots of Keighley-boys (plus our Cleveland colleague) and a resounding Yorkshire win. The combination of a gallon of cheap german lager and the sun did n't do us much good though- poor old Vauxhall Driver looked like he'd been sand-papered and fell asleep at one stage, and I keeled over at the end of the game with a Henningerbrau-induced heart attack.
As Yorkshire are a desperate outfit this year I've stumped up for 6 tickets for the England-India test at Headingley on August 23rd. Should be better than watching New Order!
