View Full Version : Why Morrissey's UK and White Fans Left Him
The Last White Fan July 7, 2002, 06:32 PM Here are a few reason why Morrissey's White Fans Left Him and why the Mexicans love him to death.
1.) Morrissey, has always been for the common man, he was an anti-royalist, he felt the common man could be just as well spoken and educated as the royal elite. He wanted the common man to rise above his place in life and shine brightly. Morrissey hated ruffians, thugs, and bullies, people who enjoyed drinking beer in manchester and wigan, people who worked in coal mines and beat people up in school, people who started fights at the pitch!
Morrissey's white fans of the Smiths days loved this spirit, but see Morrissey as betraying nobel values and embracing uneducated mexican fans who behave just like the violent scum in Wigan he once so hated.
White fans are mixed as to why morrissey has adopted his new filth fans.
a.) Morrissey sold out for cash, he really could care less about these people
but is all too happy to accept their ill gotten gains
b.) Morrissey is weak under pressure, morrissey's solo work is seen as sub standard by white fans, in the Smiths days he was obsessively loved. When morriseey didn't continue to get that love, he started to speak out against the smiths, and his white fans hated him for it.
Mexican fans don't care about what morriseey thought when he was younger, they are new commers and never went back to read old interviews to find out what morrissey was all about back then.
They care more about his "James Dean" image, than the quaily of his music. They have no respect or understanding for Johnny Marrs talents.
So they blindly enjoy a man to takes their money and smiles.
2.) Morrissey was very ANTI-America, his UK fans loved this, and his US fans were Anti-America as well, most of them were well traveled and prefered the UK.
Any American Smiths fan you would ask back in the day, would have said they would prefer to live in the UK.
When Morrissey moved to London, he was considered a sell out by his UK fans
and when he moved to LA he was considered a sell out by all except for the mexicans.
3.) Morrissey WAS very racist, he was very outspoken and repulsed by Blacks and their culture and asians and their culture. This was back in the 80s before Political Correctness was in high gear, Smiths fans were elitists, and thought his anti ethnic remarks were witty. They also feel if he knew what mexicans were or had been exposed to them back then he would have had all kinds of nasty witty remarks for them as well. If morrissey is still biggoted, I don't know people tend to mellow out with age, and tend to go from hating certain groups to just avoiding them and moving on with their lives.
Morrissey's Smiths fans see morrissey sucking up to mexican's for the money.
they are his primary source of income and he is doing everything he can to erase the past and earn future profits.
Early smiths fans are offended more so by his money motivations than the mexicans themselves. Although the though guy persona these mexicans come to the shows with, often irritate white fans, because they know morrissey would be appauled by such people in the smiths days.
They now feel that if the Royals were kissing morrissey's ass, he would love them too and say "I'd Wish I was born royality" rather than I wish I were mexican.
4.) Meat - Morrissey said if you eat meat and wear leather, don't come to my shows don't buy my records back in the smiths days, and most smiths fans did just that, the gave it up. Where as the mexican fans, love their carnitas, and carne asada, etc... Morrissey knows this and still takes their money, this is yet another case why white fans see morrissey as a sell out.
I guess bottom line is that Morrisey has sold out his old values
and its sad to see your heros fall, and you want to turn your back on them
As for the Meixcans most of them don't know what Morrissey's old values were
and if they did they are not vaule they would care about or hold dear.
They like who Morrissey is now, and to the white fans they find that insane
they see Morrissey as a fallen idol, and now that their idol was hijacked by less than beautiful people, they want it back. Not to worship it but to continue to be disapointed with it and keep it in its dejected place.
Morrissey far perfers to be the idol held most high, even though the people who are holding it, are less than perfect.
I still love morrissey for what he was, a part of the smiths.
I still love the old songs.
I am just sad that I am the only white fan left...
Are there any others? I never see you guys at shows?
Is it because I live in LA?
Hey mexicans you may have hijacked Morrissey and the Whites ran and let you have him, but what would you guys do if another group try to hijack him from you? Would you fight for him to say he is still yours? Or would you run too?
What if Morrissey became the #1 artist loved by the blacks, and you were outnumbered by blacks at the show by 75% How would you guys feel?
Cheers,
The Last White Fan
hey just a side note, this was not meant to offend anyone, just explain one of the wierdist social shifts in recent history...
no one important July 7, 2002, 07:28 PM Wow,
There was so much that was objectionable in the previous post that was made. I'm not, however, going to waste my time going through it point by point. All I can really say is, Good riddance! Really, who needs fans like that -- white or otherwise.
That post was full of sweeping generalizations as well as hate-mongering. Although I am not Mexican it makes me very comforatble to see Mexcian fans labeled as "uneducated." There's also an air of white supremecy in the post which is just as enerving. The idea that Mexican, Asian, or black fans "don't get" Morrissey and are 'sub standart' fans is UNACCEPTABLE.
There's nothing wrong with Morrissey having Mexican fans. The notion that Mexcians have "stolen" Morrissey away from the 'white majority' is almost laughable.
There are only two places where Morrissey has a strong Mexican fan base -- California and Mexico. I attended a few Morrissey shows in Germany and a few of the shows in London and guess what -- Not a single Mexican fan.
So this whole notion that 'The Last White Fan' has of Morrissey being overcome by Mexicans is ridiculous. But perhaps, this white fan happens to live in California.
It is just a bit funny because having been to about 15 Morrissey shows, mostely in Europe it's obvious that Morrissey has SOOOO MANY white fans.
Anyhow what does it matter, what sort of fan base Moz has? When it comes to Morrissey my concerns are 1. A new album, 2. Concerts, 3. Radio play. I don't have the time, will or racism in me to be bitter about Moz having Mexican fans.
As for Morrissey's popularity in the country of Mexico, I really can not speak for that. In some aspects it is baffeling, but so what? All I know is that Moz sold out a 10,000 seat statium at his Mexican City show. Would that ever happen in Los Angeles? Doubtful.
justtired July 7, 2002, 07:58 PM > he (Morrissey)started to speak out

No, not that I've read anywhere. He did say that he WAS the Smiths.
> when he moved to LA he was considered a sell out by all except for the

LA is a "media" city. How do you know his reasons? Finding a 'home' somewhere else is being a "sell out?"
> they(Mexicans) are his primary source of income and he is doing everything he can to

What percentage of his concerts are performed where the majority of the population are Hispanic? And just how often DOES he tour?

Vegetarianism is a choice! I should know. Not all of Moz's fans are of the same persuation.

It's nice for you to speak for the entire population.

I don't know a single perfect person. That would be boring!
> Is it because I live in LA?
It sounds that way. Try to get out to the rest of the US. It's a big country. You are too fixated on race and ethnicity to have a clear view of the subject.
> What if Morrissey became the #1 artist loved by the blacks, and you were

I would be thrilled that Morrissey has found a new audience, but I'm sure there are many black fans already.

You are misinformed.

Sure ~ sarcasm ~
Transmission_NYC July 7, 2002, 08:24 PM & show it to Morrissey when you meet him. (actually, i pity Moz if he ever has to meet you in person).
i'm sure virtually everyone on Morrissey-solo would agree with me that Morrissey would be repulsed by your sick views. you couldn't be more delusional than to think that Morrissey would share your poisonous ideologies.
The Last White Fan July 8, 2002, 12:08 AM 1.) In Southern California Mexican's are the Majority not a minority in anyway.
2.) Come see a Morrissey show in LA, and you tell me how well educated these people are. Tell me how comfortible you feel. See how well you are treated.
3.) I have seen a few Smiths shows in Europe, and the UK and in LA, I have seen tons of Morrissey show in Europe and LA, trust me Europe is great! I might feel the same way as you if I lived there. In LA it's hard to be a Morrissey fan.
4.) Mexicans are very homophobic, Morrissey is a beautiful gay man, I admire him for who he is, but tell a mexican that and they are ready to stick you with a knife. It makes me sad that Morrissey would embrace fans that abhore his sexuality.

The Last White Fan July 8, 2002, 12:36 AM I actually meet morrissey many many times from 1986-1993
We even went shopping together once...
Being the fact that he lives in LA I thought it might be eaiser to meet him
but twas not the case for me.
I have wanted to meet him again, just to tell him my views, because I think he would be honest with me, if he really loves the mexicans or if he is just cashing in...

Nothing Yet July 8, 2002, 12:55 AM It's about time someone had some balls to talk about this
It's just wierd that Mexican's would like morrissey
they have NOTHING in common
Smiths shows use to be fun and a great place to network
Morrissey shows in LA are horried and vile, loaded with freakish violent people, and the latino girls who fawn over him make me sick!
Nothing Yet

I keep mine hiden July 8, 2002, 03:31 AM
dear prudence July 8, 2002, 04:28 AM Being Mexican myself I sure as hell don’t know why they are so many Mexican fans or should I include the rest (Hispanic’s, Chicano’s, Latino’s) whatever.
Don’t you think I've ever questioned myself that? I mean c'mon naming his last tour OYE ESTEBAN? The reason I look to him is because he is NOT Mexican; he is not in anyway connected to anything Mexican. You should have seen me the day I started noticing Mozzer's interest in the Latin culture, I went hysterical! Not because I’m ashamed of my background but because he was not like anything I was use to, he was the complete opposite of me. Now, I guess you can say I’ve gotten use to it, it doesn’t bother me as much as it use to. But you got to admit the stories of Latino fans are getting really really old and boring now. I would like to say that you should have seen the SUPRISE I got on my first moz concert, which was in L.A! I remember saying to my brother "what the hell, why is there so many Mexican’s here??" Can you believe that I thought I was the only MEXICAN moz fan? I could have sworn I didn’t see a single white person, I might have missed you last moz fan that is white or whatever you name is. I went to the Irvine show hoping to see non-Mexicans there. And would you believe that it was as if I was traveling in a herd, it was truly laughable, I’m not kidding!
k_rose July 8, 2002, 05:25 AM How do you know he is gay? Has come out to you and only you?
We can speculate all we want, but does it really matter? Will his words be any less or more powerful? So why say that he is something that no one, but he will know?
LoafingOaf July 8, 2002, 05:43 AM You're the most disgusting person to ever post here.

The Last White Fan July 8, 2002, 06:22 AM Its refreshing to see a mexican post and not be offened by what I said
it is really wierd isnt??
I saw both the Meat is Murder and Queen is Dead Tour
both in LA, and I saw 2 show for Queen is dead in the UK
There wasnt a single mexican at the LA shows
in 91 I went to about 9 or 10 Kill Unlce shows
thats when I first started to notice Mexicans at the shows
not many maybe I would spot one or two here and there
At the time I thought it was cute
We use to joke around, Hey who invite6d El Vez to the party
When I went to 3 california show on the last tour
I was floored to see so many young people
that was the biggest shock, these people must have been 5 when Morrissey was on 120 minuntes for MTV, I really couldnt figure how so many little teens could even know about morrissey
Then the next thing I noticed was that they were all mexican.
and that confused me even more.
Where did all the original smiths fans like myself go?
It was a really wierd sceen and I felt really out of place.
Even though I had been into him since How Soon is Now first played on MTV.
Oh well

The Last White Fan July 8, 2002, 06:26 AM Well I am sure many other original smiths fans would agree with me
but the sad part is they left morrissey a long time ago
when he turned his back on the smiths legacy, they turned their back on him
Most of my friends think I am nuts for still giving morrissey a chance
after he has sunk so low...
To use morrisseys own racially charged words
"So, Goodbye, please stay with your own kind, and Ill stay with mine!"

aren't YOU the big person!
although now, i do have to say that i think i vaguely remember who you are. this story seems familiar to me as it had been typed out a few times in the past, by someone trying to beat their chest and proclaim that they are someone.
> Being the fact that he lives in LA I thought it might be eaiser to meet

> is just cashing in...
yes, yelling "mexico!" at a bunch of hispanics who were already coming to his shows is truly cashing in. what more could they do at that point? throw money on the stage?
let's not forget that he hasn't released an album in 5 years, and he's barely uttered 3 syllables to the press since his last tour. he's about to go on tour again, but outside of the few dates he's playing with the jaguares, there has been absolutely no clue what the theme will be, or even what the name of the tour is. He could completely run to the press at this point because you know they are all dying to get the scoop on what the fuck is going on, and let everyone know and that would certainly entice whatever intended audience he has in mind to pony up the cash to come out and see him.
coz, if you really think about it, the lack of press on all of this has been incredibly strange. yeah, we're used to his JD Salinger ways at this point, but you can't tell me it wouldn't help his ticket sales just a tad if he let someone other than the internet reading audience he was going on tour.
Fox in the Snow July 8, 2002, 06:48 AM > Here are a few reason why Morrissey's White Fans Left Him and why the

> Some more racist bullshit...
The only good thing I could say about you, Last White Fan, you can spell and write using college-level English... So I wonder, how did you manage to get some college or maybe even college degree, and stay so prejudiced and misinformed about Mexicans and Latinos... Did you go to Idaho State U or Montana State U, where population is 99% White... but even there in Idaho there is some diversity nowadays... If you live at LA, I just wonder how could you miss the fact, that Latinos are the catalyst of the cultural phenomena of the Britpop at LA, Latinos are 75% of Tempest (Santa Monica Blvd) Crowd, we are getting their BAs and MBAs from UCLA, we are reading good books and watch a lotta of foreign movies, while White America is so preoccupied with $$$ rat race, that significant portion of it is stagnating culturally... Being Argentinian by my parents and Italian/Jewish-looking kind of ethnic dark-skinned white, I was myself surprised when so many white Anglo-Saxon people (and quite a few Blacks) would look down at me only because my Spanish accent and perhaps ethnicity... Mexicans would be totally open culturally and socially. I was also surprised how limited is the cultural palette of your average WASP male, with exception of gays and some intellectual straight white types... So fair is fair, there are some thugs and gangbangers in East LA, there are thugs and skinheads at White 'hoods at Orange County and San Diego... I just have an impression that watching too much American TV Police Dramas could really screw-up one's mind. Personally, I see around myself Mexicans/Latinos working hard at all kinds of jobs from manual to college-level. (Usually second and third generation Latinos go to college, most of the burrito-makers are first-generation immigrants who want to send their children to college, also I RESPECT all people who actually WORK HARD FOR A LIVING, be it East LA McDonalds cashier or Mexican-born PhD microbiologist) So Mexicans/Latinos are upward mobile part of the population... With SOME Ghetto and projects-residing Blacks and SOME Trailer-Park-living Whites, there is another story... What I want to say, there is thriving Black Middle class, but significant parts of Black Ghetto population is indeed aggressively downward-mobile, there are some areas of poverty among Whites too... With us, Latinos, there is no permanent criminal underclass. We are not Ghetto brothers... We are moving up in the world, and we want our children to outscore your children on SATs and Apptitude tests, and we both know they will... (Quite a few are already!) On this pleasant note I want to finish my "love letter" to you, my dear White Brother... Smirk...
P.S. I don't even want to comment about your bull of Morrissey betraying White fans... Maybe you need an appointment to psychotherapist, maybe your mama abandoned or neglected you and now you have some weird dreams of Moz coming to your room and giving you a hug... and then listening with you to David Duke speeches on type-recorder under White Power posters... LOL... I'm sure that if you would approach Moz with your ideas, He would quietly summon security peoples to take you far, far away out of His sight...

So White Fan friends are all skinheads...
BTW, once upon a time, I saw about 200 skinheads dancing over ska band at Middle East-Cambridge, Massachusetts rock'n'roll pub. Irony of it: skinheads LOOOVE those Jamaican ska rhymes... My friend was a lead singer with last name something like Friedman... He (as myself) was totally surprised by makeup of his audience, so, being a person with a sense of humour, he started ad-libbing to the music: "Hey, skinhead, will skin your head"... They loved it... Many beers later together (with skins) we managed to get outta there... So many skinheads are not that evil, they are just working class Irish kids with too much free time on their hands and love for Supremacy tattoos, beer... and ska. :-) But Last White Fan is too sophisticated to be labeled "a simpleton". He IS evil... So no offer of peace to the Last White Fan from me..

I'm impressed... Did Last White Fan also shop with Elvis at Las Vegas Caesar Casino shopping Center lately?... I did... Then later at the day I had a tea and rum with Jesus (at Flamingos casino), he gave me some hot gambling tip... He also told me that he loves me, even if I'm gay... (Jesus was really not Biblical Jesus, but Mexican guy named Jesus!) Later Jesus went to topless show, while I proceeded to crap tables and, using Jesus advices, won $10000000000... I bought Moz-Clark Gable house against Moz wishes, it was more like a hostile takeover... and Moz had to spend a nite at Stipe Malibu mansion... Not that he had a bad time there... actually boys got married... but they had to fly to Rejkavick, Iceland, the only country which recognizes gay marriages... But Natalie Merchant didn't like it, so she proposed to me to make Stipe jealous... We married at Las Vegas, kind of Lisa Minelli/David Gest style open marriage (I have a liberty to keep my boyfriends, my wife would keep hers) We had our honeymoon at Mars... Mars is like West Hollywood: it is fun, some gay bars are not too shabby, but too many crazy peoples with antennas attached to their heads.... We planted a Versace tree at our yard... When next summer will come, our Versace tree would produce brand new Versace merchandize for me and Natalie... Now, I'm planting Gucci and Dolce/Cabbana bushes 'round the house.... OK, now I'm really out of my material. Smirk...

you know why those people left morrissey's side? BECAUSE THEY GOT OLDER!!! Hell, do you think everyone listens to the music of their youth when they get older? I doubt you'd see a ton of old fans of The Jam at a Paul Weller show in LA. Some, like you do at a Morrissey show, but most of them weren't original fans of The Jam. You shouldn't care about race so much. Seriously, who cares what skin color someone is? I bet you're opposed to interracial marriage and are threaten at the depeletion of the white "race", too. You mean this is the downside of having the internet at home, so that when ever you're bored all sorts of pointless inane crap is one here for me to read when I'm back at work on Monday morning.
Actually I wasn't referring to everyone in this thread just the burk who started it really, could this prat have generalised anymore, if he is English, and was into The Smiths back in the 80s, he has embarressed us all. It is great that teenagers are looking up bands like The Smiths, and people from other contries such as Mexico and places like that are prooving that their is very much a Smiths/Morrissey fan base. Respect.

It happens to be the hair style of choice in the South in the summertime by little boys, young men, and athletes of various kinds. It isn't so great to have the top of your head sunburned though.

Morrissey's white fans haven't left him. They may have stopped attending the gigs; some of them may have gotten themselves a tan.
The notion that Morrissey "hated ruffian, thugs and bullies" is entirely wrong and simpleminded.
I say you're yet another reactionary, socially stagnant or downhill, bitter person who tries to protect Morrissey from history and from himself. Your whining sounds unattractive to Moz, who finds the energy coming from the Latino fans something much more appealing than the decadent self-absorption affected by some of his former, prematurely aged fans.
Morrissey does not belong to anyone or to any specific demographics: he is not the spokesperson for teenage misery, he's not a gay icon, he's not the Mexican's superhero. He's an artist who communicates to many audiences on several levels. If you feel jealous and resent the attention given to the Latino crowd, that's your problem.

Libery Belle July 9, 2002, 02:29 AM It's my understanding (and I hope I'm not being racially insensitive here) that the hispanic fans like Morrissey because they are *outsiders* in LA. (Sure, there are a hell of a lot of hispanics in LA, but they're still considered an ethnic minority.)
Morrissey's music has always been music for outsiders. White or hispanic, gay or straight, vegetarian or not, it's how you feel, and how you fit in. I'm a straight white male who fell in love with Morrissey because I just didn't fit in at my school ... I hated sport, I liked hanging out in the library etc. etc. Personally I'm really glad that hispanics can identify with Morrissey, and welcome *anyone* who is a fellow fan.
Unfortunately it is rednecks like you who put people off. You're so tied up in your own little demographic (white, presumably gay) that you fear and loathe everyone who isn't like you. Get over it .....
k_rose July 9, 2002, 03:26 AM > Trust me he is gay, deal with it...

k_rose July 9, 2002, 03:32 AM If Smiths fans turned their back on Morrisey, then I pity them. But to say that he's turned his back on the Smiths legacy is pure rubbish.

HE GOT A SOLO CAREER. GET OVER IT.
k_rose July 9, 2002, 03:51 AM Belle makes a strong point.
But it does make me sad that Morrissey fans, self-described outsiders, argue and draw battle lines. Because some of us didn't like the Smiths first, does that make us lesser fans? Because the Latin community appreciates his music, does that make Moz a sell-out?
Whatever happened to liking the music and becoming friends with others who do too?

Music, or even better, art in general is an universal language. Wherever you are, no matter who you are, you're free to embrace it or not. It's fun when you find someone who apreciates the same songs you like, or when you find someone who shares the same love for an artist. People shouldn't think they are proprietor of The Smiths or Morrissey's art. His music is here for anyone who could possibly enjoy it.

I grew up in Burbank, I went to college at USC, I got a BA in Philosopy
I studied in London, and Rotterdam, and Travel to Europe at least twice year since 1986. I am currently working on an MBA at Pepperdine, I have worked for Disney, Warner and MGM. I am a 100% LA kid. I currently live in west hollywood.

I went to a Cathloic High School in Burbank, I had a lot of hispanic classmates who liked the smiths, but these were kids from the suburbs, these are not the people I am talking about, for lack of a better word they were as white as me.
It should be painfully obvious that these are not the people I am talking about.
Who I am talking about are the majority of hispanics at the shows who are homophobic, gang member ruffians, who are littered with tatoos and vile gestures. I am also talking about the latina trashy teen whores who show up and drool over morrissey, and shoot dirty looks at any white guy that crosses their path.
> So fair is fair, there are some thugs and gangbangers in East LA, there

> I just have an impression that watching too much American TV Police Dramas
Hardly...
I have traveled the world and have worked with all kinds of people cultures and races, everyone has their good and bad...
what you clearly misunderstood is that my attack has nothing to do with Mexicans or Lations, my attack was not even directed at the hispanic trash that show up to Morrissey concerts...
My attack was at Morrissey himself for embracing these people and tolerating their biggoted ways...
...

Firstly, Your life was/is indeed pathetic and empty, if the shopping with Moz is your lifetime crown achievement. Not that you shared a month-long yacht trip with him. Moreover, there were other kids shopping with him during this impromptu Smiths Q&A session, right... I'm just deriving this observation from your own words.
> he donest have anyone with great talent to write his music for him anymore
Secondly... Jee, Remember, who broke up the Smiths... Johnny Marr... you stupid... Morrissey was always praying to Marr to go back... long after sad fact of Smiths break-up... Remember this song from Bona Drag... "He knows I love him"...
> so he turned his back on his smiths fans
> and now embraces these people who just fawn over him
> and tell him how great he is
> and eat too much carne asada!
Thirdly, let's stop being childish... I would try to go down to your level for the sake of pure comedy: "oh, you, fish'n'chips eatin' & hamburgers' eatin whitie..." It would not be even funny, just stupid... C'mon, why carne asada is inferior to cheeseburger? And what about say matzoballs, if you are in the middle of the desert, hungry and thirsty, and you see a bearded Hasidic Jew with a plate of Matzoballs, offering you a meal, what would you do, spit them out and beat up a Jew? What about Black-run soul food shack, would you compromise your "Arian Pride" (LOL) by eatin' Louisiana Fried Chicken with red beans?
> he was unable to win his true fans back
> so now he is with the 2nd class
Why do you hate Mexican fans? Believe me, when I was standing in line for Moz LA show at December 99, I heard Mexican/Latino fans talking about Smiths albums like Queen Is Dead and Meat Is Murder with GREAT AFFECTION, and some of Mexican/Latino male fans are gay or bi... Surprise... Me, for example.... (I'm Argentinian by birth, my mom is Jewish, my biological father is Italian Catholic. Both of my parents live in Argentine.) Also, I'm sure that back at Smiths days, public was little bit more naive and less tolerant about homosexuality, then it is now... Even queeny Boy George at 80s would tell his mostly female teenage fans that he is asexual and "would rather have a cup of tea then sex". What's amazing, his mostly 16-year-old girl fans would buy this bull... I suspect, that back at 80s, good 60% or 70% of original Smiths lilywhite audience (mostly teenage girls) didn't realize he was gay. Everybody knows it now. Believe me, all his Mexican fans know this fact of life, Latinos are hot-tempered sometimes, but we are not stupid. Also, there are still plenty white Smiths/Moz fans around... Look at Moz-solo, people are corresponding from Germany, Italy, Brazil, and of course England... Hey, about 30% of our LA-based site's postings are from England... maybe even more... There are very few Mexicans at Manchester or Liverpool... There are few Mexicans at North Caroline or New Hampshire or Boston... but that's where many of Mozsolo correspondents live... Your idea of Mexican/Latino fans chasing away White fans is insane, moreover, it may be a manifestation of your paranoia, and if this is the case, here my area of expertise is over, and psychiatrist's area of expertise starts!
What is so disturbing about you, your writing is a writing of an college-educated man, you show even certain flavour of a urban sophistication, yet your thoughts are Neanderthal, even paranoid... Maybe you are not thinking clearly, indeed?
Good nite, and don't forget to take your medicines, love.

Bravo! Well said, indeed!!!!
someonewhocounts July 9, 2002, 11:50 AM > My attack was at Morrissey himself for embracing these people and

Let's get this straight.
You ARE attacking Morrissey.
And you are calling "these people" BIGOTED? You can't even spell the word correctly!
Look in the mirror!

Pansies July 9, 2002, 02:13 PM So your above post shows why Morrissey left the UK and wholeheartedly embraced Latino fans ?
Well done !
(on the positive side: that means one more ticket available to the new shows, great!)

The Last White Fan July 9, 2002, 05:39 PM I hate all biggoted intolerant homophobic violent people
not just latino ones...
Believe me if morrissey all of a sudden had a bunch of redneck racist former garth brook fans at his shows, I would be just as upset, who wouldnt?
> Firstly, Your life was/is indeed pathetic and empty, if the shopping with

My life is hardly over, hard to say what the top will be...
I wouldnt call meeting morrissey countless times from 86-93 an achievement
fun experiences yes, achievement, no...

Yes two close firends and I.
It was harldy planned, we met him at the hotel, after the NSAM video shoot, and we got some stuff signed and took some pictures with him.
He asked were American Rag was, and my friend said,
"Well, we can take you there"
Next thing we new we were out for an afternoon with Morrissey
I never thought he would say yes but it was fun...
We had met him several times before and after this event.
but alas, no boating adventures came to be...
> Secondly... Jee, Remember, who broke up the Smiths... Johnny Marr... you

Yes I do, and love him for thinking that way, but by them time Kill Uncle came out those feelings were long gone, and new bitter ones took their place
read some old interviews, dont take my word for it.
Even recently morrissey said the Smiths were over rated
They were anything but over rated, and it was just another cheap stab at his old fans who love the smiths so much, and feel his new stuff is 2nd rate.
> C'mon, why carne asada is inferior to cheeseburger?
They are both equally vile, I am a vegan.
however before I was a vegan, I use to eat my fair share of carnetas (sp?)

Not all of them, just the violent uneducated biggoted, tatooed ones...
cheers!

Morrissey is all about the $$$ these days, he is a whore for hire...
He probally would have enjoyed dining with Hitler both vegans...
The Last White Fan July 9, 2002, 06:10 PM Elitist yes, snobbish maybe, racist never!

Fox in the Snow July 9, 2002, 07:54 PM Just 2 observations.
I think Garth Brook fans are mostly middle-class and upper middle-class golf-playing, office-job holding, SUVs-driving black suit & tie & rosy-painted house in suburbia-possessing White Protestant Males over 30... Real Northern rednecks like stuff like Motley Crue kind of speed metal, heavy metal (all those god-awful 80s bands with names like Guns&Roses, Nazareth and Scorpions and Poison). Yes, Southern male rednecks like country, but REAL country like sad melancholic Hank Williams and criminally-rebellious Johnny Cash. Redneck chicks like to listen to Tomette(?) Wynette, Patsy Cline and Tanya Tucker heart-aching female country. Real redneck hate that pathetic homogenized pasteurized pop-bubble-ish Garth Brook and Shanya Twain pulp modern Country is producing... BTW, I like Johhny Cash and Tanya Tucker myself, why lie, it is a real stuff, real red-blooded America for you, not artificial artsy-smartsy-fartsy bubblegum of WeHo... BTW, gay punk group "Pansy Division" had this great song, forgot it's name, but the idea was: we, San Francisco queers are living inside the bubblegum in our artsy quarters, sadly we are like fish in aquarium, real country America is on the outside, some people do live at South Dakota and we are not necessary better or sharper then them, maybe we are missing something...
So, back to the subject, any self-respecting white redneck would throw Garth Brook CD out of the window of his pick up truck, and, damn it, it would be a very deserving treatment, indeed!!!
Also, Mr Last White Fan is repeating again and again, that Moz sold out for $$$... Come on, if it is so, why I didn't find Moz at Top 40 of my Rolling Stone's?!!! Moz last 2 Rockabilly albums (SouthPaw and Maladjusted) were decent if not brilliant artistically, but commercially $$$-wise this was a disastrous move. If I would be Moz's cynical and money-hungry spineless friend, I would tell him: "dude, rockabilly would empty your bank account quickly, are you nuts, you ought to move either to speed-metal-rap to get teen's buck or to the Las Vegas nostalgia lounge act to get over-30 crowd of original fans buck". It just happened, that I was always a sucker for James Dean, Betty Page, Chris Isaac-type, Weezer-type of 50s revivalists, David Lynch, Happy Days sitcom re-runs, in short, all those 50s things, and, therefore I liked new Mozzer direction. But believe me, Moz lost many many green pieces of paper with Dead American Presidents on it because of his recent artistic direction. If Moz is guilty of something, he is guilty of being so carefree and careless about his career, by skipping talk shows and breaking up with all the right peoples in music business... JMHO...
Fox in the Snow July 9, 2002, 09:19 PM > The more people like something the less it appeals to me...
Surprise, I agree with you on this one! However there is one important exception or better say two ones: I consider Doors' Jim Morrison and Ray Manzarek musical geniuses of all time and they had truly mass-appeal back at 60s, like other greats, Jefferson Airplane... (Some would add Beatles, but personally I'm indifferent to Beatles.) Doors had #1 singles (Light My Fire, Crystal Ship etc...) back at 1966... and top selling albums like Doors debute or 'LA Woman'... But usually, yeah, mass tastes are pedestrian at best, if not outright oversugary-nauteous tacky, and Top 40 sucks big dick, excuse me for my French... Why at 60s mass-appeal musical tastes of America used to be so enlightened (Doors, Dylan, Joan Baez etc), and now common people crave for sugared dogshit like Limp Bizkit or Spears? I donno... At least you, Last White Fan, got something right here.
Now, think about it this way: what if some thug or hoochie mama from ghetto(white or Latino) started listening to Moz & Smiths and then, step by step, he/she became a better person in the process, started to read book, think about his/her life at the long run, this kind of stuff... (Think some peoples from Amb Out, if you know whom I mean) Who are we to block access to Art and Books and Music for the working class peoples??? Does Jesus intended us to guard those Gates to Paradise from vulgarian proles... (I'm ironic here) Being a gay man from relatively affluent background, I may be quite guilty of elitism myself, but at least I realized that elitism and snobbishness are not qualities one has to be proud of... and peoples ought to be better spiritually if they are open-minded about outside World. Last White Fan, this anger and hate and prejudice you have in your heart is bad for you, it burns you inside and makes you miserable, it is bad for your soul... you are against homophobes, yet you think racism is ok... But it is never too late to mend your ways... It would be good for your soul... believe me, it is hard for you to live with all this hate inside you, life is too short to be a hater! All the best for you and your soul. Bye. I would stop answering your posts now, I have to move on with my love... I wish you the best... on Spanish and English...
Earl Graphite July 10, 2002, 01:18 AM ALL people are entitled to enjoy Morrissey's music. I don't recall reading any rules and regulations for being a Moz fan. What Morrissey believes in his personal life is irrelevant. He is an entertainer; it's his music the fans are after. Only an obsessed fanatic would get so deeply involved in Morrissey's politics (and mold their own lives after it).
I've been a fan since 1985, and personally, I couldn't care less about who is listening to him. If they enjoy it, wonderful, that's all that matters. Gay, straight, young, old, white, black, hispanic, etc etc etc. Who cares! Just close your mouth, stop thinking so much, and enjoy.
Your troubled words saddened me. Prejudice such as yours stifles our growth and evolution. It sounds like you're just too frightened to accept that, underneath all the labels and stereotypes, people are pretty much the same. Why does it bother you so much that people other than white, presumably gay men such as yourself are listening to him? (And don't take that offensively, I'm white and presumably gay myself )
I don't know where you get your facts, specifically, why you think Mexicans are his biggest source of income. Where did you read this? We all know he has a rather large hispanic fan base, but I don't believe it's his largest. And so what if it is! Of all the people I've ever met, Hispanics tend to be the nicest. Perhaps you met one or two homophobic Hispanics and have branded the entire race racist?
His music appeals to the under dog. There's an under dog in every culture, and eventually they will find Morrissey's music. Instead of hating any fan who isn't of your mold, why not try opening your mind and heart and realize that we're ALL in this together.
Give it a rest, won't you?

The Last White Fan July 10, 2002, 02:43 AM With the doors and beatles etc... the Music Industry was a much differnt state.
There was a chance for the super talented to make it big.
Today, if you don't comform to the corporate glue, you are forced to an indie label that cannot possible get the air play and exposure that EMI, WEA, and Universal Music can pump out. They have a huge marketing machine that feeds the weak minded swill and tells them its great.
Any true talent that doesnt want to play the corporate game is SOL
I think that was the big reason why napster was so feared
not for the loss of income, but the loss of control
marketing departments were shitting their paints
Napster had the potential to make someone a superstar without the corporate machine. Ergo making the marketing machine usless.
These people have huge egos and big labels, and don't want to lose their foothold.
> I may be quite guilty of elitism myself, but at least I
> realized that elitism and snobbishness are not qualities one has to be
> proud of...
Why not? Having discriminating taste is a good thing, taking anything to an extreem can always be bad. We should try to set a higher standard and rise above the masses.
Good ol' Wilde said something to the like, we are all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars. Sometimes I feel I am in the stars looking down at the gutter, even though I know it's not true.

Not racism, but certain cultures can be judged harshly
for an extreem example, you can look at african tribes that cut off the clit of their womem. This is really vile, as an educated elitist you can openly say this is wrong and will not tolerate or accept that culture.
Does that make me a racist for the blacks of the world, NO!
But I detest some of their tribal culture.
Hating the culture does not make you a racist

The Last White Fan July 11, 2002, 05:11 PM I am not a musical snob, there is a lot to be said for someone who can write a catchy tune. Look at Lou Reed, he is one of the most amazing influences in Rock music, yet most of his songs revolve around simple 3 chord progressions that are not difficult to write.
Boz is a middle aged bloated drunk, who cannot carry a tune
Alain is a pumped up pretty boy, who gets more credit for his looks than his ability.
Have you heard Cosmic Dancer on the P. for the Last Time single?
Oh My God the playing was aweful, it sounded as if these were people who only had 1 week of lessons. It's not style, it's lack of ability.
If you don't believe me, get 3 of your friends and take lessons for a week to learn how to play cosmic dancer, trust me you will most likely do a better job than they did.
