I am wondering if you can explain why Morrissey (while in the Smiths) occasionally sings about fat girls? Are these references meant to be derogatory? If not then what do they mean? Is this compulsion or malevolence?

I have heard it explained by fans that it's sort of a means of identification with the losers and downtrodden. Same way that "Asian Rut" may be about identifying with the outnumbered Asian.

I don't know. And i don't know how frequent a poster ME is, it seems like he hasn't posted anything lately. Or how staright of answer He'll give you. Good luck.

..."William, It Was Really Nothing" is definitely derogatory towards fat girls who say "oooooooooh, would you like..." etc etc

BTW, ME is my "most likely to be Morrissey" contributor to this site.

Thanks for that explanation. I often do not understand what lyrics mean, and that's if I can even figure out the words.

That's a nice way of phrasing that, Billy Budd.

Yeah, I agree that it's probably used as a term to describe the misfits/outcasts. I don't think it's malevolant. But it still probably offends some...though not me...so why did you want to know my opinion?
