I've written a piece stating my views on Rogan and Morrissey in relation to THAT book! It's attached to the current poll: "Have you read: 'Morrissey & Marr, The Severed Alliance' by Johnny Rogan?"
Any genuine, interested feedback appreciated.
Thanx

I'm in agreement with most of your eloquent posting. Autobiographies are the worst, in my opinion, (Thora Hird pts 1. 2. & 3. inc stanna stair lift) that's not to say I wouldn't read his should Our Moz dare to put pen to paper, so that's why I agree that Rogan did what most journo's/judas' would do, right he as to write to earn his crust. He had to unearth what Our Moz did not (who would?) want unearthing? The dichotomy with fame & impending fame is the use of the media, I think Our Moz used it to his advantage on most occasions, but as with most things in life all to often the cross of salvation turns into the sword of destruction. "One of the great myths of Morrissey is that he is exactly like us: lazy, depressed, self critical, and lacking in motivation. The rather humble soul that he is, he does not discourage us from thinking otherwise."
So is it a myth? Could we dare to have the same beliefs/feelings/thoughts/misgivings/apprehensions?
Well why not, he sang to each & everyone of us, didn't he, not just to us but about us, same boat, different sea but we've all paddled/piddled in it. (Blackpool 1972)
So the icecream as melted & the 99's have been scoffed, but child like we await the icream van to appear again & the bell will toll!
See you in the queue.
To me Morrissey has the dryest wit in wettest Manchester. (L.A. 1900's+)

> Thanks Grim for reading my post. I think one of Morrissey's great gifts (he has many) is to bare his soul in a way that arouses empathy rather than maudlin pity. The beauty of his work is that he admits to having foibles and human weaknesses that traditionally men are not suppose to acknowledge i.e loneliness, sadness, depression, betrayal. I think that is why he is has so many male fans. Very few artists are prepared to bare their souls the way he does, that is not to negate per se the value of their work, it is simply to say he is naked. Most male singers in the rock arena do everything to camouflage their hearts and souls and that's okay. A lot of people listen to music for fun and excitement. To me Morrissey along with being a very talented songwriter is also a therapist of sorts. I think his songs and words heal people in many different ways. As a Californian New Age type might say: only the wounded can heal the wounded.
In a time where the suicide rate amongst men particularly 18-45 is rising every year - its endemic in the UK and other European countries, it is fortunate that to be a man and relate to the lyrics and ideas in his work is to be consoled in some way. I have always felt in my adult life that Morrissey and his work has consoled me. Long may he continue to be the healer and bringer of good things.
